1
We praise Thee, glorious Father,
  As objects of Thy grace,
Who for Thine own heart’s pleasure
  Are now before Thy face:
Thy sons marked out for glory
  Known from eternity
With Christ Thy Well-beloved,
  Object supreme to Thee.
2
Who else but Thee, O Father,
  Could in Thine only Son
So bless us with Thy Spirit,
  And have us for Thine own?
Soon shall we be forever
  With Christ in glory; then
We’ll shine in His blest image
  Eternally, Amen!

An eternal plan that God made in Christ

God's economy is an eternal plan that God established in Christ. Ephesians 3:11 says, "According to the eternal purpose that he accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord." This purpose is the purpose of eternity, the eternal purpose, the eternal plan that God established in eternity past.

God accomplished His eternal economy in Christ. The Christ revealed in the Bible is the embodiment of the Triune God and all the processes He went through, including His incarnation, human life, crucifixion, resurrection, ascension, and descent. It is in such Christ that God accomplished His eternal economy. Therefore, Christ is the element, sphere, means, goal, and objective of God's eternal economy. Christ is everything in God's economy. In fact, the entire content of God's eternal economy is simply Christ. Christ is the center, circumference, element, sphere, means, goal, and objective of this economy. According to Ephesians 3, this economy was accomplished in Christ.

So that God Himself, in His Trinity,

may impart Himself to His chosen people

God's New Testament economy is His plan by which God Himself, in His Trinity, imparts Himself into His chosen people. How does God, in His Trinity, impart Himself into His people? This impartation has three steps. First, this impartation is from God the Father. The Father is the source, the origin. Second, this impartation is through God the Son, who is the course. Third, God's dispensing is in God the Spirit, who is the instrument and sphere. Through these steps—from God the Father, through God the Son, and in God the Spirit—God imparts Himself into His chosen people.

In order to produce the church as the kingdom of God,

whose consummation is the New Jerusalem

God's New Testament economy, which consists of God dispensing Himself into His chosen people, is intended to produce the church (Eph. 3:10). This dispensing produces the church for the manifestation of the manifold wisdom of God according to the eternal purpose God accomplished in Christ (vv. 9-11). This means that through the dispensing of God, in His Trinity, the church is produced to exhibit the manifold wisdom of God.

Stanzas 2 and 3 have been added:

2. For holiness Thou chose us,

Ere earth was set in space,

Predestined us Thy glorious

Inheritance in grace;

Thou marked us out beforehand,

Chose us for sonship's sake;

Our full predestined portion,

When full-grown, we'll partake.

3. As Thou predestinated,

Thou called us to be graced;

Thy life divine imparted,

Our every sin erased.

Our pledge and seal's the Spirit,

Supplying boundlessly;

Thine ever, we inherit

Thy wealth eternally.
