Out of my bondage, sorrow, and night

1
Out of my bondage, sorrow, and night,
Jesus, I come! Jesus, I come!
Into Thy freedom, gladness, and light,
    Jesus, I come to Thee!
Out of my sickness into Thy health,
Out of my want and into Thy wealth,
Out of my sin and into Thyself,
    Jesus, I come to Thee!
2
Out of my shameful failure and loss,
Jesus, I come! Jesus, I come!
Into the glorious gain of Thy cross,
    Jesus, I come to Thee!
Out of earth’s sorrows into Thy balm,
Out of life’s storm and into Thy calm,
Out of distress to jubilant psalm,
    Jesus, I come to Thee!
3
Out of unrest and arrogant pride,
Jesus, I come! Jesus, I come!
Into Thy blessed will to abide,
    Jesus, I come to Thee!
Out of myself to dwell in Thy love,
Out of despair into raptures above,
Upward for aye on wings like a dove,
    Jesus, I come to Thee!
4
Out of the fear and dread of the tomb,
Jesus, I come! Jesus, I come!
Into the joy and pleasure, Thine own,
    Jesus, I come to Thee!
Out of the depths of ruin untold,
Into the flock Thy love doth enfold,
Ever Thy glorious face to behold,
    Jesus, I come to Thee!

I just returned from a retreat this past weekend which was a spiritually life-changing experience for me on a personal level. Tonight as I finished Night Prayer in front of Blessed Sacrament, I wanted a hymn to sing to Him that spoke what my heart was feeling. I typed into my iPhone 'night hymn' and this song from you was right there. Oh my, it could not have been more fitting for me at this time. It describes my retreat experience in every way way. I know Jesus chose it for me. Thank you so much!!

In the early hours of this day, as I was earnestly seeking the Lord... this song came to mind. As a young lad my dear mother would take up her accordion piano and play the old gospel songs including this beloved song, and we children would join in and song along. It was and yet today is impactful... I used my mobile and put the first lines of the song 'out of my bondage sorrow and night, Jesus I come' the song appeared... its lyrics touched me deep within and yes soothed my spirit. To God be the glory!

As part of the worship team I recall watching the whole congregation swaying back and forth in perfect rhythm as we all were soothed by this beautiful hymn. The words are wonderful.

I was in the kitchen making coffee and the Holy Spirit started singing "Jesus I come, Jesus I come!" So came over to the computer and turned it on and now I am writing it all down in my prayer journal. I will also share it with my friends in Maryland who love old hymns as I do. Thank you and God bless you.

"Anything that disturbs rest in Him must be cured at once, and it is not cured by being ignored, but by coming to Jesus Christ." - Oswald Chambers

God is so faithful to lead me back to this beautiful hymn and to read testimonies of His children from all over the world. He is Emmanuel!

Praise the Lord. There is hope. We can come to the Lord away from our various condition into God. Thank You Lord. Keep us coming to You.

I remember this hymn from when I was 12. Just caught myself humming it yesterday and here I am. What can I say, the hymn speaks to me!
