When morning gilds the skies

Praise of the Lord General

English238
1
When morning gilds the skies,
My heart awaking cries:
May Jesus Christ be praised!
Alike at work and prayer
To Jesus I repair:
May Jesus Christ be praised!
2
To Thee, my God above,
I cry with glowing love,
May Jesus Christ be praised!
The fairest graces spring
In hearts that ever sing,
May Jesus Christ be praised!
3
Does sadness fill my mind?
A solace here I find,
May Jesus Christ be praised!
Or fades my earthly bliss?
My comfort still is this,
May Jesus Christ be praised!
4
When evil thoughts molest,
With this I shield my breast,
May Jesus Christ be praised!
The powers of darkness fear,
When this sweet chant they hear,
May Jesus Christ be praised!
5
When sleep her balm denies,
My silent spirit sighs,
May Jesus Christ be praised!
The night becomes as day,
When from the heart we say,
May Jesus Christ be praised!
6
Be this, while life is mine,
My canticle divine,
May Jesus Christ be praised!
Be this th’ eternal song
Through all the ages long,
May Jesus Christ be praised!

Getting ready for minor surgery and am blessed to be the only patient in my room. Enjoyed sitting here singing all the stanzas. Yeshua has been with me and never left me, all my life, and I will be with Him forever— may Jesus Christ be praised!!!!

I can relate to the writer of this song. It’s wonderful to wake up in the morning and spend time withe Jesus. No matter what condition we find ourselves, we can say

“May Jesus Christ be praised! ”

I like others was humming the first verses this morning but needed a reminder of the others. I am so thankful that your site could provide me with them all! God is such a good provider and has given so many a talent to turn his great promises into songs of praise.

I woke yesterday, already singing this hymn silently. The first 2 lines had stayed with me after decades being unsung and unheard. God is so good.

As I prepare for surgery in 10 days, I turn each morning to our Lord. The sight of the sun rising brings the peace of God to my heart and soul. Like others, I grew up singing this hymn in church. One of my favorites.

Faithful is the Lord our God. We sung this beautiful hymnal in my early basic school years, and I remember how the golden morning sun rays spread its light across the skies. It seems those memories will always be with me anytime I remember and sing this beautiful hymn. God bless the composers!

This morning as the sunlight streamed through the departing clouds, following several days of steady rain, I was reminded of this beautiful hymn. I remember singing it quite often in our home church. As a youngster I may have thought it was too long, but the words each verse are so meaningful to me now. Wish the old hymns would be sung more often in our churches today. Young people need to "feel" these words today, as they sing, in worship to God the Father!

I first sang this hymn in school. We had an hour every week day before class dedicated to praise and prayer. Now am grown, I understand; and I cherish the time spent with the Lord first thing upon waking. May Jesus Christ be praised for those teachers.

May schools return praise and prayer to the curriculum.

The light of dawn, the sunrise, signifies Christ in His coming (Prov. 4:18, footnote 1, Recovery Version). This beautiful morning the sunlight was gilding the clouds in the skies, reminding me of Christ imminent return, and I had to exclaim “May Jesus Christ be praised! ”
