Work, for the night is coming

Service Being Diligent

English8661
1
Work, for the night is coming,
Work through the morning hours;
Work while the dew is sparkling,
Work ’mid springing flowers;
Work when the day grows brighter,
Work in the glowing sun;
Work, for the night is coming,
When man’s work is done.
2
Work, for the night is coming,
Work through the sunny noon;
Fill brightest hours with labor,
Rest comes sure and soon.
Give every flying minute,
Something to keep in store;
Work, for the night is coming,
When man works no more.
3
Work, for the night is coming,
Under the sunset skies;
While their bright tints are glowing,
Work, for daylight flies.
Work till the last beam fadeth,
Fadeth to shine no more;
Work, while the night is darkening,
When man’s work is o’er.

Thank you Richard for a wonderful testimony. Also thanks to the workers here on this hymn site. Just found this thread to check recent testimonies. I was looking for songs of gratitude and found this testimony. I remember this song vividly from my childhood. Lord keep us looking to You, Your presence in all things, keep us in the index of Your eye.

My first piano found me 43 years ago when I was down on my luck and feeling very depressed. The piano was in horrible condition, needed virtually everything and was being taken to the dump when it saved me. I knew someone who needed a piano and thought that I could "fix this one up". When the person I got the piano for saw the old war-torn beast of a piano, she was insulted and refused to talk to me, ever again.

Stuck between the dampers, hammers and strings of that first piano, was a single page of sheet music. The title of the music was "WORK, FOR THE NIGHT IS COMING."

As I worked on that piano, one thing lead to another. I now have a piano wholesale business, a piano moving and storage business, a piano tuning business and a 130, 000 sq. ft. warehouse (completely paid for) where I store (among other things) over 150 pianos I keep in inventory (and own, lock-stock-and barrel) and also store dozens of pianos for other people. I can quite honestly say that "ever since I found that page of sheet music inside my first piano, I've been working on or with pianos almost every single day .... and I have loved every minute of it."

That hymn has truly been ... the song of my life!

It AMAZES me how many believers from Nigeria regularly post on all the hymns here on this site in the midst of extreme and oppressive Christian persecution that’s engulfing the country. Please, whoever reads this, KNOW that I am praying daily for you all. John 17.

Peace, grace and love from our Holy and Righteousness Father and our Lord Jesus Christ.

On this Sunday, June 13th, 2021; The pastor spoke about work for the Lord as said in 1 corinthians 3:9-15. Then, we sang this beautiful song that usually strenghtens me during work time. May GOD helps me as a deacon to fill my time with his labor.

I just heard the music on a show called Boss Baby and remembered the lyrics as a teenager and started singing it to my 5 year old granddaughter Journey. I intentionally bowed my head and put my hands into prayer position after the music was over she turns to me and says that's not church music, thanks for sharing your beautiful music!!!

In my devotions this morning February 3, 2020, I remembered this hymn from my childhood, Was listening on Youtube to Greg Laurie and Don Stewart about Bible Prophecy (was probably recorded maybe 2015). Fueled my fervency to use my apartment each Sunday for hospitality as a lighthouse to my community.
