I stand amazed in the presence

1
I stand amazed in the presence
  Of Jesus the Nazarene,
And wonder how He could love me,
  A sinner condemned, unclean.
  How marvelous! How wonderful!
  And my song shall ever be:
How marvelous! How wonderful!
    Is my Savior’s love for me!
2
For me it was in the garden,
  He prayed: “Not my will, but Thine.”
He had no tears for His own griefs,
  But sweat-drops of blood for mine.
3
In pity angels beheld Him,
  And came from the world of light
To strengthen Him in the sorrows
  He bore for my soul that night.
4
He took my sins and my sorrows,
  He made them His very own;
He bore the burden to Calv’ry,
  And suffered, and died alone.
5
When with the ransomed in glory
  His face I at last shall see,
’Twill be my joy through the ages
  To sing of His love for me.

This hymn is glorious, absolutely! There are so so many glorious hymns , but this one , for me , clarifies the glory that OUR SAVIOUR LORD JESUS CHRIST HIMSELF AND OUR LORD GOD ALMIGHTY, has promised us all and confirmed that what lies ahead for us all , if we only simply, give our souls to HIM , is unimaginable paradise! Many times ( especially as we are all suffering greatly with the demonic virus) I sit and ponder . Why oh why don’t people simply ask JESUS to help them with whatever it is that life brings! Trouble , strife , hunger , death , illness , financial problems, family dysfunction etc; anything, everything ! The answer , my friend is not “ blowing in the wind “ , ! The answer is JESUS CHRIST! For HE IS ONLY AN ARMS LENGTH AWAY! GOD OUR FATHER, THE SON AND THE HOLY SPIRIT , WILL PROTECT US FROM ALL EVIL ! HE DOES AND HE WILL . TODAY TOMORROW AND FOREVER AND ETERNITY! AMEN 🙏

This song has so much wonderful truth in it that makes my heart sing. I am glad if Chris Tomlin has helped to bring us back to singing it, but he did not write the words or the tune - they were both written by Charles Gabriel who lived in the late 1800s and went to be ‘with the ransomed in glory’ in 1932 :)

I was listening to this song done by Steph Macleod and in the second stanza, because of his Scottish accent, I thought I heard "I shed no tears for him, but He sweat drops of blood for me." So I came to this site and discovered it is actually "He had no tears for His own griefs,

But sweat-drops of blood for mine.".

Which is a great line by Chris Tomlin; but I sit here with tears about such a thing and the love He loved us with despite my wretchedness, about the idea of what I thought I heard.

"3 He was despised and forsaken of men,

A man of sorrows and acquainted with grief;

And like one from whom men hide their face

He was despised, and we did not esteem Him.

4 Surely our griefs He Himself bore,

And our sorrows He carried;

Yet we ourselves esteemed Him stricken,

Smitten of God, and afflicted." Isaiah 53:3-4
