Jesus! that name we love,
  Jesus, our Lord!
Jesus, all names above,
  Jesus, the Lord!
Thou, Lord, our all must be;
Nothing that’s good have we,
Nothing apart from Thee.
  Jesus, our Lord!
2
As Son of Man it was,
  Jesus, the Lord!
Thou gav’st Thy life for us,
  Jesus, our Lord!
Great was indeed Thy love,
All other loves above,
Love Thou didst dearly prove,
  Jesus, our Lord!
3
Righteous alone in Thee,
  Jesus, the Lord!
Thou wilt a refuge be,
  Jesus, our Lord!
Whom, then, have we to fear,
What trouble, grief, or care,
Since Thou art ever near,
  Jesus, our Lord!
4
Soon Thou wilt come again,
  Jesus, the Lord!
We shall be happy then,
  Jesus, our Lord!
When Thine own face we see,
Then shall we like Thee be,
Then evermore with Thee,
  Jesus, our Lord!

James Deck wrote this hymn around 1800. He has one of the original founders of the “Brethren” movement. They were just brothers. Some considered them the church of brotherly love. When the split with the Plymouth Brothers occurred, he was brokenhearted. He would not accept that division. It is said he did not write any more hymns after that happened. His love for the Lord is illustrated in this wonderful hymn on the Lord’s name and His love. But Mr. Deck loved the body he loved the church and the oneness of it. It is notable that he wrote this hymn in the plural which indicates he saw the importance of the Church. The church only names that one name. That is the name of Jesus Christ. We must be humbled by His name.

Jesus! that name we love,

Jesus, our Lord!

Jesus, all names above,

Jesus, the Lord!

Thou, Lord, our all must be;

Nothing that’s good have we,

Nothing apart from Thee.

Jesus, our Lord!

In order to overcome with Christ,

we need to be above everything

in all circumstances.

When we reign in life, we are above all in Christ's victory in all circumstances. How can we be above all? According to the book of Ephesians, we are united with Christ in His resurrection and ascension (2:5-6), so we ascend to the heavenly realms. This is what being above all means. Ephesians 1 tells us that we, because we have been resurrected and ascended with Christ, are above all things together with Him, not only above everything under the earth but also on the earth and in the air and in the heavens and even in the heaven above the heavens. We are also above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come (vv. 20-21).

When we have reached such a high position, we will have truly received grace and been genuinely saved. I hope all believers will listen to this. Do not lead a confused life from day to day, imagining that you have been saved and simply waiting to go to heaven. This is pagan thinking. Today we live a life in which we are above all else, together with Christ in His victory.

The experiencing the organic salvation

of God is equivalent to reigning

in the life of Christ
