How sweet the Name of Jesus sounds

Praise of the Lord His Name

English66
1
How sweet the Name of Jesus sounds
In a believer’s ear!
It soothes his sorrow, heals his wounds,
And drives away his fear,
And drives away his fear,
And drives away his fear,
It soothes his sorrow, heals his wounds,
And drives away his fear.
2
It makes the wounded spirit whole,
And calms the troubled breast;
’Tis manna to the hungry soul,
And to the weary rest,
And to the weary rest,
And to the weary rest,
’Tis manna to the hungry soul,
And to the weary rest.
3
Dear Name! the Rock on which we build;
Our shield and hiding-place;
Our never-failing treasury, filled
With boundless stores of grace,
With boundless stores of grace,
With boundless stores of grace,
Our never-failing treasury, filled
With boundless stores of grace.
4
Jesus, our Savior, Shepherd, Friend,
Our Prophet, Priest, and King;
Our Lord, our Life, our Way, our End,
Accept the praise we bring,
Accept the praise we bring,
Accept the praise we bring,
Our Lord, our Life, our Way, our End,
Accept the praise we bring.
5
Weak is the effort of our heart,
And cold our warmest thought;
But when we see Thee as Thou art,
We’ll praise Thee as we ought,
We’ll praise Thee as we ought,
We’ll praise Thee as we ought,
But when we see Thee as Thou art,
We’ll praise Thee as we ought.
6
Till then we would Thy love proclaim
With every fleeting breath;
And triumph in that blessed Name
Which quells the pow’r of death,
Which quells the pow’r of death,
Which quells the pow’r of death,
And triumph in that blessed Name
Which quells the pow’r of death.

This song just came to my spirit. Particularly this verse
Jesus, our Savior, Shepherd, Friend,
Our Prophet, Priest, and King;
Our Lord, our Life, our Way, our End,
Accept the praise we bring,
Accept the praise we bring,
Accept the praise we bring,
Our Lord, our Life, our Way, our End,
Accept the praise we bring.
Father I thank You for the gift of You
There’s nothing like it.

This song was impressed upon my heart yesterday and I came here to sing this morning. The wording carry great comfort and every verse has a message for me.

Dear Name! the Rock on which we build;
Our shield and hiding-place;
Our never-failing treasury, filled
With boundless stores of grace,
With boundless stores of grace,
With boundless stores of grace,
Our never-failing treasury, filled
With boundless stores of grace.
Thank you Jesus for giving me your precious Name

Thank you Jesus. There is no greater knowing than having an experience and victorious encounter with the name of Jesus. Indeed the name of Jesus conquers all seen and unseen forces of darkness, Satan, his demons and human agents of cruelty. Hallelujah to the most high God, Amen and Amen 🙏

I love the contrast in verse 5. Before we see the Lord, we may realise that our hearts are weak and our thoughts are cold. When we see the Christ who lives within us, however, we are out of the picture! We just praise the Lord and forget about what we are AS WE OUGHT!

WEAK is the effort of our heart,
And COLD our warmest thought;
But WHEN we see Thee as Thou art,
We’ll praise Thee as we OUGHT!
NOW we will Thy love PROCLAIM
With EVERY fleeting breath;
And TRIUMPH in that BLESSED Name
Which QUELLS the pow’r of death... in US!
