Jesus shall reign where’er the sun

E145
1
Jesus shall reign where’er the sun
Doth his successive journeys run;
His Kingdom stretch from shore to shore,
Till moons shall wax and wane no more.
2
To Him shall endless prayer be made.
And princes throng to crown His head,
His name like sweet perfume shall rise
With every morning sacrifice.
3
People and realms of every tongue
Dwell on His love with sweetest song;
And infant voices shall proclaim
Their early blessings on His name.
4
Blessings abound where’er He reigns:
The prisoner leaps to lose his chains,
The weary find eternal rest,
And all the sons of want are blest.
5
Where He displays His healing power
Death and the curse are known no more;
In Him the tribes of Adam boast
More blessings than their father lost.
6
Let every creature rise and bring
Peculiar honors to our King;
Angels descend with songs again,
And earth repeat the loud Amen.

I woke with, Let every creature rise and bring . . . Going through my head repeatedly but couldn't remember which hymn it was, so 6am when my husband got up I was straight onto the internet to find out. So glad to be able to satisfy my curiosity and sing the whole hymn.

I thank God for this wonderful service.

Read Psalm 72 this morning and began to sing this hymn which I haven't sung for over 60 years. The Holy Spirit has brought it to my mind!

Hearing Psalm 72 yesterday this came back to me from high school around 1965-70. Didn't know Jesus then but the power of these words and melody clearly found their way into the soil of my heart and bore fruit 14 years later. How wonderful He is, matchless Jesus.

Takes me back to my growing up years. My father and mother leading the hymn during family devotions in the evening. We need you Lord Jesus, now more than ever.

Lovely him that takes me back to my high school, boarding school days in the early 1960s, in Africa, a hymn not only an awakening call but one of praise that also calls for one’s dedication to the mission of propagating the Gospel. May He reign for ever and ever, amen.

A sure assurance hymn that draws me closer and to God and family. Make me feel his presence. It reminds me of my mother - Doris Mumba Mwansa who had a closer walk with her God and her favourite Psalm 94:9 He who planted the ear, does he not hear? ... A hymn that stands a test of time.
