Work, for the night is coming, Work through the morning hours; Work while the dew is sparkling, Work ’mid springing flowers; Work when the day grows brighter, Work in the glowing sun; Work, for the night is coming, When man’s work is done. |

Work, for the night is coming, Work through the sunny noon; Fill brightest hours with labor, Rest comes sure and soon. Give every flying minute, Something to keep in store; Work, for the night is coming, When man works no more. |

Work, for the night is coming, Under the sunset skies; While their bright tints are glowing, Work, for daylight flies. Work till the last beam fadeth, Fadeth to shine no more; Work, while the night is darkening, When man’s work is o’er. |

In my devotions this morning February 3, 2020, I remembered this hymn from my childhood, Was listening on Youtube to Greg Laurie and Don Stewart about Bible Prophecy (was probably recorded maybe 2015). Fueled my fervency to use my apartment each Sunday for hospitality as a lighthouse to my community.

Beautiful songs of encouragement for Workers in God’s vineyard reminding us of eternity, inevitability of physical death and the second coming of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Also in our personal lives, it reminds us of the need to make hays while the sun shines as time waits for no one. May God bless the Author and his descendants, Amen!

There is this drive in me that cast away despair of life -time to live for Jesus , to work for Jesus, and after that... The night falls! Time is very precious for me, I waisted much of it out of what I was giving to live in my life time. If I have the opportunity I will like to call again time!

We learnt this song while in the secondary school in the 1960s. it was meant to remind us to make hay while the sun shines and not only in the things God but also in our private lives at work, business and home. Great lyrics, those.

This great hymn is one of my Dad's favourite. Dr. J.P. Ikpen will sing it most times when returning from evening service in Benin City, Nigeria and whistle it while at home. The lyrics are priceless and eternal, reminding us of our mortality.

I remember our music teacher in grade school teaching us this song. It was a Catholic grade school and she was a nun, a very old nun.
