All the way my Savior leads me

All the way my Savior leads me; What have I to ask beside? Can I doubt His tender mercy, Who through life has been my Guide? Heav’nly peace, divinest comfort, Here by faith in Him to dwell! For I know, whate’er befall me, Jesus doeth all things well, For I know, whate’er befall me, Jesus doeth all things well. |

All the way my Savior leads me, Cheers each winding path I tread, Gives me grace for every trial, Feeds me with the living bread. Though my weary steps may falter, And my soul athirst may be, Gushing from the Rock before me, Lo! a spring of joy I see, Gushing from the Rock before me, Lo! a spring of joy I see. |

All the way my Savior leads me; Oh, the fullness of His grace! Perfect rest to me is promised In my Father’s blest embrace. When my spirit, clothed immortal, Wings its flight to realms of day, This my song through endless ages: Jesus led me all the way, This my song through endless ages: Jesus led me all the way. |

Adding to Mark's May, 2008 post on the story of this hymn: When the stranger gave Fanny Crosby the exact amount that she had prayed for, she was amazed at the Lord's marvelous answer to her simple prayer. She wrote, "My first thought was, 'It is so wonderful the way the Lord leads me.'" - Great Songs of Faith by Brown & Norton

When we face trials - a loved one dies, we lose our job, debts are mounting, our marriage is under strain or our child is going away from God, THE WORLD or we ourselves may question if God truly loves or cares for us.
Fanny Crosby here reaffirms Psalm 119:68 that "...God is good, and doeth good...". Jesus doeth ALL THINGS well. He does NOT know how to do evil and He always seeks to bless us. The trials are sent to prepare, to strengthen and bless us. Remember Joseph in Egypt.

I am so glad to find this hymn played with piano and in the way it is meant to be played (worshipful) and not change to the beat of worldly music or sung by some stage performer. Though the world should fall apart around us--NOTHING goes on that does not get approved by God first--think of the story of Joseph in Genesis. Jesus leads us--The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? Psalm 27:1

I will be preaching on the Leadership of Christ this Sunday. This old hymn speaks of Jesus, THE Leader, Who leads His people. I have sung this song many times this week to prepare my heart to share about the loving Leadership of Jesus Christ!
May we all "follow" the Leadership of our Lord,

What power of expression--and with such simple heartfelt words that speak straight to my spirit and soul!
"And my soul athirst may be,
Gushing from the Rock before me,
Lo! a spring of joy I see,
Gushing from the Rock before me,
Lo! a spring of joy I see."
With the eyes of my spirit, I see that gushing stream flowing into the depths of my soul. Spoken twice in the song, it reminds me of the double portion.
And there is this:
"When my spirit, clothed immortal,
Wings its flight to realms of day,
This my song through endless ages:
Jesus led me all the way,"
How good of the Holy Spirit to give Fanny Crosby expression of these thoughts that lay unspoken in my own heart. Thank you, Lord! Thank you Fanny!
Truly every joint supplieth.

This hymn reminds me of the verse in Philippians 1: 20 & 21,
"According to my earnest expectation and hope that in nothing I will be put to shame, but with all boldness, as always, even now Christ will be magnified in my body, whether through life or through death. For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain."
Amen! Jesus doeth all things well.
