O Jesus Christ, grow Thou in me

1
O Jesus Christ, grow Thou in me,
  And all things else recede;
My heart be daily nearer Thee,
  From sin be daily freed.
  Each day let Thy supporting might
  My weakness still embrace;
My darkness vanish in Thy light,
    Thy life my death efface.
2
In Thy bright beams which on me fall,
  Fade every evil thought;
That I am nothing, Thou art all,
  I would be daily taught.
3
More of Thy glory let me see,
  Thou Holy, Wise, and True;
I would Thy living image be,
  In joy and sorrow too.
4
Fill me with gladness from above,
  Hold me by strength divine;
Lord, let the glow of Thy great love
  Through all my being shine.
5
Make this poor self grow less and less,
  Be Thou my life and aim;
Oh, make me daily through Thy grace
  More meet to bear Thy name.

I love these words: Each day let Thy supporting might my weakness still embrace; my darkness vanish in Thy light, Thy life my death efface. Lord, keep embracing me in my weakness. Change my darkness into light. Your life my death efface.

Lord, as this world grows darker and more evil, may Your love and joy blossom all the more in my life and heart.

Matthew 5:3 Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

The poverty of spirit is seen in both the Old and New Testament amongst the contrite of saints namely Isaiah who after experiencing the Lord replied "Woe is me... I am a man of unclean lips. That is poverty of spirit.

The apostle Paul counted all dung for the excellency of the knowledge of God.

John on the isle of Patmos was regarded as a dead man in the presence of God.

Lord make my poor, weak self grow less and less each second Lord (Let it decrease). Lord fade every evil thought, every thought of my self.

Fill me with gladness from above,

Hold me by strength divine;

Lord, let the glow of Thy great love

Through all my being shine.
