I stand amazed in the presence

1
I stand amazed in the presence
  Of Jesus the Nazarene,
And wonder how He could love me,
  A sinner condemned, unclean.

How marvelous! How wonderful!
And my song shall ever be:
How marvelous! How wonderful!
Is my Savior’s love for me!
2
For me it was in the garden,
He prayed: “Not my will, but Thine.”
He had no tears for His own griefs,
But sweat-drops of blood for mine.
3
In pity angels beheld Him,
And came from the world of light
To strengthen Him in the sorrows
He bore for my soul that night.
4
He took my sins and my sorrows,
  He made them His very own;
He bore the burden to Calv’ry,
  And suffered, and died alone.
5
When with the ransomed in glory
His face I at last shall see,
’Twill be my joy through the ages
To sing of His love for me.

This hymn quietly ensued in my heart since 28th June and this Monday morning, 29th June, I decided to check it out to sing and meditate on it more deeply . since no song or hymn could displace it for this hours in my heart.....

Standing amazed just in His presence.... how marvelous, how wonderful is my Saviours love to me...

Until our eyes open to the depth and height of His love to us, pouring our lives as a drink offering for Him remains. an uphill task...

More love for you JESUSšŸ™šŸ˜šŸ™

Yesterday morning the preacher asked "What do you love most? ' From youth my commitment to the Lord has remained solid. I love growing in the Lord, studying His Word, serving people (especially my graduate students), growing in knowledge and understanding As a 70 yr old missionary and scientist. But I realized that loving Jesus Himself has not been my first love. This hymn inspired and challenged me in that direction.

And here it is June 2026, and it’s been more than a decade, or even more than two, since I sang this song. And as I was contemplating the depth of God’s love, this song popped back into my memory and I had to come find it online. The songs of our faith are like a torrent, a river that floods our soul and brings comfort and joy and peace. The words are never far away.

While reading Psalm 32 and the words, ā€œBlessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is coveredā€¦ā€, my heart began to sing this beautiful old hymn, and I was blessed by the faith of a saint who walked this earth long ago. So very thankful that because of Christ Jesus, faith lives on and blesses others even when we have passed into His presence. Such is the wonderful, marvelous love of Christ!

I have found resplendant joy in reading many of the comments on top of the heartfelt joy of reading (and singing) the lyrics to myself and my God on this quiet morning as I sit by the window, listening to God’s world and thanking him for small signs of positive change he has shown me throughout the night-signs of the beginnings of hope and restoration after a year and a half of living in the shadow of the valley of death. Praise God from Whom ALL blessings flow. Thank you, Mr Gabriel, for giving up your time to learn and write for so so many future generations of seekers and searchers and needy souls like me. And thank you, Jesus, for dying on the cross and surrendering all for my salvation from sin and from myself.

I had never heard of this song in my entire life. But during my prayer time this morning the Spirit gave me the words to a song ā€œhow wonderful how marvelous! ā€ So I looked that up, and it led me to this song. The lyrics are amazing! I’m going to see if I can find someone singing it on YouTube. Thank you for the leading of the Holy Spirit, Father! continue to lead and guide me and draw me even closer to you in the name of Jesus, my Savior!

In the early 1900s, Charles H. Gabriel (1856-1932) became a renowned gospel music writer. He wrote the words and music for many of the hymns used by evangelists such as Billy Sunday. Charles’ hymns had an emphasis on gospel music. In the 1800s hymns were more meditative and theological. But with the revival work of D. L. Moody and Billy Sunday, Christians learned to love songs that were more informal and easy to memorize.

Charles Gabriel is credited for having written between 7000-8000 songs. He wrote tunes for hymns as well, including ā€œHis Eye is on the Sparrowā€ and ā€œWill the Circle be Unbroken? ā€

He taught himself to play in his family’s reed organ and never had any formal music training. Some of his music stemmed from his personal struggles, including his fatherā€˜s death. His mother would challenge him to write his own words and music after finishing his farm work each day. In response to his son having become a renowned songwriter, she said, ā€œI would rather have him write a song that will help someone than see him become President of the United States. ā€ her hopes for her son came true, and Charles became known as the ā€œMaster of Missionary Music. ā€ Gabriel lead worship for Billy Sunday encouraging listeners to hear the ā€œMacedonian Callā€ (a call by the apostle Paul in Acts encouraging a Macedonian to join him in the to preaching of the gospel). One common thread throughout many of Gabrielā€˜s lyrics is the high-honor and sense of indebtedness to spread the good news of the gospel.
