Fill My Cup, Lord

Experience of Christ General

1
Like the woman at the well, I was seeking
For things that could not satisfy.
And then I heard my Savior speaking—
“Draw from My well that never shall run dry.”

Fill my cup, Lord;
I lift it up Lord;
Come and quench this thirsting of my soul.
Bread of Heaven, feed me till I want no more.
Fill my cup, fill it up and make me whole.
2
There are millions in this world who are seeking
For pleasures earthly goods afford.
But none can match the wondrous treasure
That I find in Jesus Christ my Lord.
3
So my brother if the things that this world gives you
Leave hungers that won’t pass away,
My blessed Lord will come and save you
If you kneel to Him and humbly pray—

Thank you for this wonderful resource! I was fumbling around with my old Adventist Youth Hymnal and was way off base! Singing hymns is one of the dearest ways I commune with Jesus. Thanks for setting me straight on the melody!

This song has been going through my mind this morning. It reminds me of the early years of my Christian walk 50 years ago. As I now walk through some very difficult times, Jesus Christ still fills me. He alone can satisfy.

This song came to my mind during prayer this morning. It spoke to my desire to be immersed in the presence of God. What a blessing.

Trust this is how I'm beginning the year. It 12 am this morning and I felt this hunger (although the normal kind) but the Holy Spirit gave me an understanding that I should see it as the hunger for that growth I've always be yarning for.

Then this song came to my heart.

The Lord alone can fill this thirsting and hunger of my soul.

By His grace, by the end of the year I'll be looking back to this moment with a heart of gratitude.

I have sung this song as a solo several times in the early years of my ministry. Just now, September 25, 2025, it came to my heart and I prayed the words I had long forgotten several times. I sang it to myself and TO THE LORD. Oh, how he is filling my soul for preaching this weekend. I am 82 years old and I know for certain it is by GOD’S SPIRIT more can be done that we can even imagine (EPHESIANS 3:20-21)!

Richard E Blanchard (Dick) was my Pastor at Wesley Meth Church in Coral Gables, FL..

He led me to the Lord in Nov 1954 in my hospital room at Jackson Memorial Hospital, Miami. I was 15 yrs old.

Dick came home from a Bible Study one night in 1959 while I was off in college, sat down at his piano and the words to Fill My Cup just flowed to him. He told me that within 10-15 mins time. He gave my parents who were dear friends & charter members of his church one of the first copies as a gift.

He was asked by Queen Elisabeth to sing it for her in a visit to London.

One Stanza is even in the Baptist Hymnal🙏
