Down from His glory

Praise of the Lord His Incarnation

English82
1
Down from His glory,
Ever living story,
My God and Savior came,
And Jesus was His name.
Born in a manger,
To His own a stranger,
A Man of sorrows, tears and agony.

O how I love Him! How I adore Him!
My breath, my sunshine, my all in all!
The great Creator became my Savior,
And all God’s fullness dwelleth in Him.
2
What condescension,
Bringing us redemption;
That in the dead of night,
Not one faint hope in sight,
God, gracious, tender,
Laid aside His splendor,
Stooping to woo, to win, to save my soul.
3
Without reluctance,
Flesh and blood His substance
He took the form of man,
Revealed the hidden plan.
O glorious myst’ry,
Sacrifice of Calv’ry,
And now I know Thou art the great “I AM.”

I like verse 2. “God gracious tender laid aside His spender” this is truly condescension. This is based on Paul’s Epistle to the Philippines chapter 2:6. NIV “Who [Christ] being in the very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to His own advantage”. He truly set aside His splendor. This is the mind of Christ. It is based on His great love. He became an obedient servant and lowered himself for us. This mind, based on love, it took Him all the way to Calvery. Shouldn’t we all have such a mind set? When we set our mind on Him, we can sing nothing but “0h how I love Him! ”.

I too received these words this early morning after reading my Bible and considering the amazing truth of John 1:12 and then suddenly the chorus came to my mind!!

“Oh how I love Him, how I adore Him, my breath my sunshine, my all in all, The Great Redeemer became my Savior and all God’s fullness dwelleth in Him! ” I just had to see the whole Hymn again, I am 82 and had not heard the song since it first came out years and years ago! I asked Ceri/my phone…. and this came to me! Thank you for posting!
