Our God and Father, we respond to Thee

Worship of the Father His Praise from Many Sons

English51
1
Our God and Father, we respond to Thee
As sons brought near,
Suited, in love and holy liberty,
To this blest sphere.
O wondrous thought, that many there should be
Like Christ, for Thy delight eternally!
2
He, Thy delight, in whom we have our part,
Through grace to share
Thy love for Him, the Object of Thy heart
Beyond compare.
His glory in Thy presence now we see,
As with Him there in love’s complacency.
3
’Tis here He sings—what joy His heart doth find,
Thyself to praise,
While many sons are stirred in heart and mind
One voice to raise
In worship, God and Father, unto Thee,
Supreme, Thou Source in love’s economy!

B. Giving Thanks

Verse 20 goes on to say, “Giving thanks at all times for all things in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to our God and Father. ” We should give thanks to our God and Father not only at good times but at all times, and not only for good things but for all things. Even at the worst times, we should give thanks for all things to our God and Father.

This verse tells us to give thanks in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. The reality of the name of the Lord is His person. To be in His name is to be in His person, in the Lord Himself. This implies that we should be one with the Lord in giving thanks to God.

Here's a helpful quote about John Owen's 1657 book 'Communion with God', which says: "What is this love of the Father? Owen says that it is, first, a “love of complacency, ” that is, a love that takes pleasure in its objects. God the Father is joyously, delightedly content in and with His children (Zeph. 1:17)."

同聲頌揚;

Best song in the world! - everthing is here. GOD'S plan and economy is to bring us to this ' blest sphere'. How can we not respond to Abba and be led to worship him in and by the leading of his Son.

All of the Fathers love is poured out upon the Son in whom we now have a part. It is here both God and man are content as we share and bask in real love.

Oh Abba dear Abba we respond to thee!

Our response in this hymn is not of our unworthiness as a sinner, but as one placed in the blessed sphere of the Son! The revelation of the Father and the Son in union, fellowship and eternal delight is overwhelming. Even more, for us to participate in THIS comes without words to describe our blessed place in Christ, the Son. May many responses of love come forth as we draw nearer to our Source, and kiss our loving Father in worship as sons!
