All our scriptural knowledge without Him is just in letter and is vanity. The Lord is the Spirit, the rhema word, the instant living spoken word in our inner being to give us His life, little by little, more and more each day according to His infinite wisdom and divine design!
THE THOUGHT OF GOD TO BE MAN’S
LIFE IN THE NEW TESTAMENT
-----------------------
God Coming to Be Incarnated That Man May Receive Him as Grace and Reality, Both of Which Are God Himself to Be Man’s Life as Man’s Eternal Portion
-----------------------
The first point concerning God being life to us in the New Testament is His incarnation. God came to be incarnated that man may receive Him as grace and reality (John 1:14 , 16). Both grace and reality are God Himself to be man’s life as man’s eternal portion. God was incarnated in order that He might dispense Himself into us as life. John 1:14 says, “The Word became flesh and tabernacled among us... full of grace and reality. ” For the Word to become flesh means that God became a man. Grace is God enjoyed by us, and reality is God gained by us. When God is gained by us, that is reality. If we have everything in the universe but do not have God, everything is vanity. Only God is reality. When God is gained, realized, and apprehended by us, God is reality to us.
In order for us to enjoy Him and to gain Him, God must be our life. John 1:1 says, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. ” Verse 3 says that “all things came into being through Him. ” Then verse 4 says, “In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. ” Joining these verses with verse 14 , we can see that God as the Word became flesh to bring grace and reality to us. To have grace and reality is to have God as life.
CHAPTER TWO
THE THOUGHT OF GOD TO BE MAN’S LIFE RUNNING THROUGH THE DIVINE REVELATION FROM BEGINNING TO END (LSM)
Something in verse 2 of this hymn struck me about the usefulness of shadows. I’m greatly appreciating the word of God this morning. Specifically I see the importance of the Old Testament which is full of shadows. When the sun shines on an object in the afternoon at an angle, it projects a shadow of the real object. It is not the real thing but gives an outline of the object that indicates things about the real object. So the Old Testament Shadows give us a better understanding of Christ the reality. But when the brilliant light shines straight down on the object that shadow disappears and the reality is there. So the shadows help us to somewhat see God. When Christ comes the full reality will be ours and we will see Him as He really is. Lord shine on us more today!
This hymn is packed with truth, but the focal point is Christ as the one reality. You must know what reality is. A good definition is “the world or the state of things as they actually exist, as opposed to an idealistic or notional idea of them. ” When we believe in Christ we get a dose of reality. That is knowing God subjectively. This is based on John 14:6. Christ is the way we come to know God. Without knowing God and His purpose we can only live a vain life. We take this all in by faith. We do not want to go to the end of our life and realize this.
Christ is the One Reality of all things both great and small, through all eternity, from eternity past to eternity future.
Christ became the life giving Spirit, who is the Spirit of Reality indwelling our spirit.
The more we are in spirit and set our mind on the Spirit, the more He will guide us into the reality of expressing Christ as our everything in the church life. Praise Him - the Wise Master Builder of the Church!
Christ also is the one reality
Of all our doctrine and theology;
And all our scriptural knowledge without Him
Is just in letter and is vanity.
Christ, the reality of time and space,
Christ, the reality of every stage;
Christ is the one reality of all
Thru all eternity from age to age.
Because the universe with the billions of things and persons in it was created for the purpose of describing Christ, He, in revealing Himself to His disciples, could easily find in any environment something or someone to serve as an illustration of Himself -Col. 1:15-17
Every shadow functions to point as into the reality of every positive thing in the universe.
He must be our all in all.
He is the reality of all our necessities.
Let us hold Him as the Head.
All our shadows..."but the body is of Christ"
(Col. 2:17)
At the beginning of 1961 I was in Taiwan and wrote eighty-five hymns. One of these hymns says, "Christ is the one reality of all, / Of Godhead and of man and all things else; / No man without Him ever findeth God, / Without Him man and everything is false" (Hymns, #496). We cannot find a hymn with this kind of content in any hymnal in Christianity. Over the past two thousand years, thousands of teachers have expounded the Bible, but no one ever wrote a hymn on Christ being the reality of all. However, an old Chinese man who was born in a small town in Shantung and who has no degree in theology wrote such a hymn.
Although we may speak many words each day, much of our speaking may not be for Christ. Thus, we need to learn how to speak for Christ. We need to learn how to prophesy, how to speak Christ as the reality. The first line of Hymns, #496 says, "Christ is the one reality of all." This indicates that our speaking of anything other than Christ is not real. When Christ is the content of our speaking, our prophesying is real. Whatever we speak in the meetings must be Christ. We need to learn to speak concerning Christ, to speak for Christ, and to speak forth Christ to others. We all need to learn how to prophesy in a proper and real way.
In [Col.] 2:18 Paul warns us to let no one purposely defraud us of our prize. Our prize is the full enjoyment of Christ. Even those of us who have been in the Lord's recovery for many years do not have the full enjoyment of Christ. We have been defrauded of this. Through seeing the vision of the all-inclusive Christ, we are being brought back to our prize. If we see this vision, no one will be able to defraud us of the full enjoyment of Christ. When we have this enjoyment, we realize that Christ is our reality. A stanza from a hymn on the experience of Christ as reality expresses it this way:
Christ is our real God, our real Lord,
Christ is our real life, our real light;
Christ is our real food, our real drink,
Our real clothing, and our real might
Hymns, #496
Since Christ is such a reality to us, we should live by Him, not by culture.
