If we sense the Lord's love at the beginning of the meeting, we may select a hymn on His love for the opening, such as, Hymns, #71, "Jesus! How much Thy name unfolds," or Hymns, #158, "Lord, Thy love has sought and found us / Wand'ring in this desert wide." Be-cause the hymns sung at the opening are for preparing the saints' hearts, the singing should be lively. However, we should not ascend too high too quickly. Rather, we should sing verse by verse to calm the saints' hearts so that they may be brought into the presence of God. No matter what kind of meeting we are in, we can select a longer hymn as the first one. Hymns, #213, "On that same night, Lord Jesus,/ When all around Thee joined," is a very good hymn for opening the Lord's table meeting, because it calms the saints' hearts and produces in them a feeling for the Lord.
