In God’s green pastures feeding

1
In God’s green pastures feeding by His cool waters lie;
Soft in the evening walk my Lord and I,
All the sheep of His pasture
Fare so wondrously fine; His sheep am I.
  Sisters: Waters cool,
Brothers: In the valley;
Sisters: Pastures green,
Brothers: On the mountain,
Sisters: In the evening
Brothers: In the evening
Everyone: Walk my Lord and I.
  Sisters: Dark the night,
Brothers: In the valley,
Sisters: Rough the way,
Brothers: On the mountain,
Sisters: Step by step...
Brothers: Step by step.
Everyone: My Lord and I.
2
Through the streets of the city in the darkness of the night,
Far from the fold, He heard my lonely cry.
Now I sit at His table in the palace of light;
His sheep am I.

I love this song, it's such a great song but also I have great memory as a kid singing this song with my mother. At church service for special music my mother and I would sing but she would also play the guitar. =)

I too have a melody running through my mind most of the time. I was working in the yard and this melody came to me. My daughter and I sing together and we are going to sing it for our church services. I do not think of it as a children's song at all. It is a wonderful thought. I like the additonal verses I have found also. It makes it like a full length song. Thanks for letting me find it here. I would love to have the piano music to print as it is played here as you read the lyrics.

What a wonderful site tonight as I see my Uncle Orien G Johnson's song is still being a blessing all over the world. He wrote it in 1956. The additional verses are NOT part of the original song. Thank you for your prayers for the family as Uncle Orien, my dad's oldest brother, just went to be with the Lord yesterday, January 9th, on the same day my father, his brother, Claude, passed 27 years ago to the day. I'm thankful that God is our Shepherd and we are His sheep. I cherish my many fun memories of him singing this with me. I love you Uncle Orien. You were and are such a blessing. He worked many years in Christian service and did this while working for Young Life in it's early founding years.

My sister and I learned this song at camp one year and my grandmother loved to hear us sing it. She just passed away today and my sister and I plan to sing it at her memorial, thank you for having it on here.

For the last year or so I wake up almost every morning with a hymn or chorus in my mind, I know it's Jesus waking me up like that. Today it was this song but I couldn't get the last verse right so I searched in my old hymnals and chorus books and couldn't find it. Then I found your website! Thank you, it's awesome! I am sure I will spend a lot of time here!! God bless you for the work you did for us to enjoy :)

My sister and I sang this song to our Mother as she passing away last month. We both learned this song in summer camp, 40 odd years ago, but we could never remember the last verse and here it is. Thank you for putting it up on your site. I looked for this song in many Hymnals. Blessings from two sisters who loved their Mother.
