Break Thou the Bread of Life,
Dear Lord, to me,
As Thou didst break the loaves
Beside the sea;
Beyond the sacred page
I seek Thee, Lord;
My spirit pants for Thee,
O Living Word.

Thou art the Bread of Life,
O Lord, to me,
Thy holy Word the truth
That saveth me;
Give me to eat and live
With Thee above;
Teach me to love Thy truth,
For Thou art Love.
Thou art the Bread of Life,
O Lord, to me,
Thy holy Word the truth
That saveth me;
Give me to eat and live
With Thee above;
Teach me to love Thy truth,
For Thou art Love.

Oh, send Thy Spirit, Lord,
Now unto me,
That He may touch my eyes,
And make me see;
Show me the truth concealed
Within Thy Word,
And in Thy Book revealed
I see the Lord.
Oh, send Thy Spirit, Lord,
Now unto me,
That He may touch my eyes,
And make me see;
Show me the truth concealed
Within Thy Word,
And in Thy Book revealed
I see the Lord.

Bless Thou the truth, dear Lord,
To me, to me,
As Thou didst bless the bread
By Galilee;
Then shall all bondage cease,
All fetters fall,
And I shall find my peace,
My All in all.
Bless Thou the truth, dear Lord,
To me, to me,
As Thou didst bless the bread
By Galilee;
Then shall all bondage cease,
All fetters fall,
And I shall find my peace,
My All in all.

For my quite time I read and reflected on John 14. As I meditated on the promise of the Comforter in verse 26 this song came in my Spirit. It's so awesome, to God be the glory.

This tune was on my mind as I awoke at 1:30am to attend to my aging mother. I was so happy to find it here even as only a few words came to mind.
Praise Jesus our Living Bread!

Thanks a lot. I really needed that song and it came very timely.

It was wonderful to come across this timeless hymn. As I was preparing to mount the pulpit for Bible Teaching, my heart yearned for so something beyond the pages of the Scripture, this song begins to ring in my heart; quickly, I search for it and sang it over and over again. It was a blessing to my soul.

Somewhat speechless, I write with tear-filled eyes. Today, the Holy Spirit brought these lyrics to mind. Though I've known this hymn for years, suddenly the meaning of each stanza became alive. The hymn, so descriptive of the joy experienced in worship as we come with a heart expecting to receive and allow the Living Word. to "splash through the canyons of our mind, like a wave on the sea"... Praise His Holy name.

I love the way Holy Spirit reminds me of song lyrics like these just when I need those very words. And grateful thoughts to my Godly parents who gave me so many hymns that are now stored deep in my mind.
I have sung this song for years but it only got a hold of me last Sunday(02-12-18) especially the last stanza and I am still basking in its glory: like my eyes just opened to see it. Is this the same song I have been singing unconsciously all these years... I pray it never leaves me!

I woke up this morning with some of the words to this song going through my mind. So happy I was able to find it here and so blessed to see in the comments that several others have been awakened in a similar way.

Love this Communion hymn. God bless!

This hymn, often sung in communion services, reminds me of John's gospel where Jesus said 'I am the bread of life'. While Jesus's body was crucified on the cross, he bore away the sins of the world.
if we repent of our sins and believe the gospel, we shall be saved and born again (1 Peter 1, 53 verse 1), and thus go to Heaven.
