The Lord’s my Shepherd, I’ll not want

1
The Lord’s my Shepherd, I’ll not want;
  He makes me down to lie
In pastures green; He leadeth me
  The quiet waters by.
2
My soul He doth restore again,
  And me to walk doth make
Within the paths of righteousness,
  E’en for His own name’s sake.
3
Yea, though I walk in death’s dark vale,
  Yet will I fear no ill;
For Thou art with me, and Thy rod
  And staff me comfort still.
4
My table Thou hast furnished
  In presence of my foes;
My head Thou dost with oil anoint,
  And my cup overflows.
5
Goodness and mercy all my life
  Shall surely follow me,
And in God’s house forevermore
  My dwelling-place shall be.

I love this hymn. In grade 5, our class, along with all grade 5 students in the city of Edmonton, (a few thousand), were taught this hymn with all its harmonies. Together, in the "Edmonton Gardens" arena, we all assembled and accompanied by the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, sang this 23rd Psalm. It was dizzyingly wonderful, and unforgetable. In later years, I accepted Jesus as my Lord and can truly know the blessing of these words. I am writing this note in the night as I woke unable to get back to sleep, so quoted the 23rd Psalm. Not sure I was getting it right, I got up and went on line. Going further than just the scripture, I searched for this song which was a real delight. I'll now sleep well.

I am greatly thrilled to enjoy the meaning, message and the melody of the Hymn. The most favorite Psalm of all Psalms in the Bible. I thank God for it. I always wondered who compose the words of this Hymn though I am aware it is Psalm 23 is in the Bible, however, the words of the Hymn and the music set to it re very interesting. The circumstance under which the author of these words as found in this Hymn is fascinating. for me. I wish to know the name of the person and the circumstance under which he or she wrote these words borrowing from the Bible. God bless them.

I’ve always loved this song and if I feeling low I sing this a frw times and I feel recharged.

I was in the church choir from my teenage years and for some reason this song takes me back there.

I'm having this hymn sung by my family at my funeral to let them know I did not fear death and that I'm happy in my resting place. I think this will comfort them.

This lovely hymn based on Psalm 23 in the Old Testament of the Bible, is based upon the idea that the singer is a sheep, shepherded by the Lord Jesus Christ, who is the Goid Shepherd (John 10).

But do we KNOW the shepherd?

It is possible to know the Good Shepherd, the Lord Jesus Christ, by repenting of our sins, believing that He died to take our sins away on the cross, arose from the dead because He did not sin, and receiving Him as Lord and Saviiour, as well as Goid Shepherd. (John 1 verse 12).

John 17 verse 3 shows in Jesus's Gethsemane prayer that eternal life is knowing Jesus Christ and the Father who sent Him. So John 3 verse 16, the gospel in short, shows that if we believe the gospel, we shall have everlasting life, in knowing the Lord Jesus Christ as Lord and saviour.

Only when we are born again Christians can we know the Good Shepherd and sing this hymn, in faith, as God intends us to. Otherwise we sing this hymn in vain.

This hymn comforts me... It reassures me that I am not alone, that Christ is with me in all I do. I love the second verse because it restores and uplifts my soul. I am blessed.

This hymns takes my memory far, it's like I am seeing King David playing the guitar 🎸 to the Lord. It also give me courage to continue working hard knowing very well my God is my Shepherd.
