The Lord’s my Shepherd, I’ll not want

1
The Lord’s my Shepherd, I’ll not want;
  He makes me down to lie
In pastures green; He leadeth me
  The quiet waters by.
2
My soul He doth restore again,
  And me to walk doth make
Within the paths of righteousness,
  E’en for His own name’s sake.
3
Yea, though I walk in death’s dark vale,
  Yet will I fear no ill;
For Thou art with me, and Thy rod
  And staff me comfort still.
4
My table Thou hast furnished
  In presence of my foes;
My head Thou dost with oil anoint,
  And my cup overflows.
5
Goodness and mercy all my life
  Shall surely follow me,
And in God’s house forevermore
  My dwelling-place shall be.

Beautiful and very comforting. Brings out the meaning more than just reciting the psalm. May our God be glorified for evermore.

It was so uplifting to hear this and be able to sing along. This was a favorite of mine in the eighties.

It's been so very long since I heard this. I looked it up after reading out of the book "Hymns for a kid's heart" by Bobbie Wolgemuth and Joni Eareckson Tada Volume One—it is a very special book! And he who comes to God must come as a little child! In Mark 10:15 Jesus said "Assuredly, I say to you,whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will by no means enter it"! This is an extremely powerful song with beautiful music based on Psalm 23! Blessings to all my brothers and sisters in Christ! Look up for He is coming again!!!

I was told in Bible study that the Hebrew word translated as "follow" in the last stanza is more accurately rendered "pursue". I love the idea of our Good Shepherd pursuing us, actively chasing after us because He loves us, using His rod and staff—His goodness and mercy—to protect and guide His straying sheep to His house to dwell with Him forever.

A very comforting, blessed assurance. A song that truly warms the heart. Goes way back. Primary school, high school. A song for every occasion. I remember my sister Jan singing the descant on the school choir many years ago.
