O Christ, in Thee my soul hath found

O Christ, in Thee my soul hath found, And found in Thee alone, The peace, the joy I sought so long, The bliss till now unknown. |
Now none but Christ can satisfy, None other name for me; There’s love and life and lasting joy, Lord Jesus, found in Thee. |

I sighed for rest and happiness, I yearned for them, not Thee; But, while I passed my Savior by, His love laid hold on me. |

I tried the broken cisterns, Lord, But, ah, the waters failed! E’en as I stooped to drink they fled, And mocked me as I wailed. |

The pleasures lost I sadly mourned, But never wept for Thee, Till grace the sightless eyes received, Thy loveliness to see. |

There are times in our life when loneliness pierces our soul, when no matter how many people are around us, we feel completely and utterly alone. It is in these moments that the Lord sings this hymn within me and reminds me that "None but Christ can satisfy," Whenever we put our hope and love in a name other than Christ, there can only be disappointment eventually. But there is "love and life and lasting joy, Lord Jesus, found in Thee." Lord, fill our every part with Yourself, only You satisfy!

The pleasures lost I sadly mourned, I never wept for thee.
Till grace the sightless eyes received, Thy loveliness to see.

I've always enjoyed this hymn but never so much as now, especially stanza 4 which before had never stood out to me.
The pleasures lost I sadly mourned,
But never wept for Thee,
Till grace the sightless eyes received,
Thy loveliness to see.
"The well and the waterpot meant so much to the Samaritan woman, but after she recognized Christ, she spontaneously gave up those cherished things and went to the people, testifying that Christ was now her satisfying life... The Samaritan woman did not go to her people with the doctrine of Christ; she first gained Christ and then went to them with Christ."

What a glorious and encouraging hymn. We sang it a lot as young people at our youth fellowship at church and also sang it regularly at our morning services. True satisfaction is found in Christ alone! But we sometimes or is it often forget that don't we? And go off looking for satisfaction in Al the wrong places. Let's continually seek living water from Christ and him alone.

Lovely.
Remember singing heartily years ago.
Just listened to A Begg refer to this in a talk called food for the soul. Isn’t poetry based on our good God masterly.
Thank you for helping me find this on your website.

God is good and all that He has created is good even now just as it was at the beginning.

Wonderful hymn, just heard it referenced in Mary Peckham's testimony which is awesome. Look up 1949 revival testimony about 38 minutes long on YouTube.
