If I gained the world, but lost the Savior

NT1079
1
If I gained the world, but lost the Savior,
Were my life worth living for a day?
Could my yearning heart find rest and comfort
In the things that soon must pass away?
If I gained the world, but lost the Savior,
Would my gain be worth the lifelong strife?
Are all earthly pleasures worth comparing
For a moment with a Christ-filled life?
2
Had I wealth and love in fullest measure,
And a name revered both far and near,
Yet no hope beyond, no harbor waiting,
Where my storm-tossed vessel I could steer;
If I gained the world, but lost the Savior,
Who endured the cross and died for me,
Could then all the world afford a refuge,
Whither, in my anguish, I might flee?
3
O what emptiness!—without the Savior
’Mid the sins and sorrows here below!
And eternity, how dark without Him!
Only night and tears and endless woe!
What, though I might live without the Savior,
When I come to die, how would it be?
O to face the valley’s gloom without Him!
And without Him all eternity!
4
O the joy of having all in Jesus!
What a balm the broken heart to heal!
Ne’er a sin so great, but He’ll forgive it,
Nor a sorrow that He does not feel!
If I have but Jesus, only Jesus,
Nothing else in all the world beside—
O then everything is mine in Jesus;
For my needs and more He will provide.

Oh Lord! This hymn really touched me & really reminded me that all things are just vanity if it is not of God! Often we are occupied with other things and our first love is no longer for the Lord. The Lord doesn't just want our first place, He wants our second place, third place, OUR WHOLE BEING!

Oh how we need to praise the Lord! I really enjoyed this hymn because as a young person, you still have a lot of things to go through and experience. There's so much things happening around us. At times, you are so busy with your things, it ends up that we don't really enjoy the Lord. But Hallelujah! This song was such a reminder for me! Even if I gained everything in the world but lost the Savior, there is no meaning in our lives! This hymn should be a daily reminder to us! We need to live by the Lord each and every day! He is all in all!

"What a joy of having all in Jesus" it's really a joy of having Him in our life... I don't want anything...I just want to gain more of Him day by day...OH LORD JESUS... AMEN

I'm so touch of this song, really if we gained the world and lost the Saviour life is so meaningless. Praise the Lord that He gained us already through His grace we're saved. AMEN!!!

This song really means a lot to me, because as a young person there is so much you can become caught up in. Then the reality hits you and you finally see that If I was to gain the whole world, but loose the Lord, it would be for naught. Praise the Lord, let's bring His kingdom back!

"O what emptiness without the Savior!" That's really true. All things are void, false. Only God is real; He fills all in all. "O the joy of having all in Jesus!" What a joy! When we have Jesus, we have all things!

I like this song because throughout my experience, I realize that nothing in this world is more worthy than our Lord, Jesus Christ. He can satisfy our every need. Also through out my experience, I notice that it is not worthy to gain the world, but lost the Savior. No matter what we do in this world. They all end up with an empty feeling inside us. Only Christ can satisfy this hunger. Once we receive Christ as our Savior, it all leads to the satisfaction, joyful, sweet feeling.
