O God, our help in ages past

Experience of God As the Dwelling Place

English607
1
O God, our help in ages past,
Our hope for years to come,
Our shelter from the stormy blast,
And our eternal home.
2
Under the shadow of Thy throne
Thy saints have dwelt secure;
Sufficient is Thine arm alone,
And our defence is sure.
3
Before the hills in order stood,
Or earth received her frame,
From everlasting Thou art God,
To endless years the same.
4
A thousand ages in Thy sight
Are like an evening gone;
Short as the watch that ends the night
Before the rising sun.
5
Time, like an ever-rolling stream,
Bears all its sons away;
They fly forgotten, as a dream
Dies at the opening day.
6
O God, our help in ages past,
Our hope for years to come,
Be Thou our guard while life shall last,
And our eternal home.

Today being Monday the 4th of August 2025, only the Almighty God knows why I woke up singing this song by 4am. It used to be a favorite song of both my late father and secondary school principal in St Augustine’s Grammar School, Nkwerre now in Imo State of Nigeria. May God correct my faulty steps and guide my future steps.

I was almost overwhelmed with family issues in my heart this morning while at the office and then from nowhere, the tune of this song and the lyrics of the first line of the first stanza. It was at that point I knew that I was not alone. Praise God for always coming through for me and always reminding me that He is always with me and ready to help. I'm just grateful to God that l was able to searched and found the full lyrics.

I was with a group of friends who were singing this song in my dream this night. To my surprise I was singing along off heart. As I woke up, I had to search for the song and I am so refreshed and blessed as I sang it a couple of times. Glory to God.

This song has been on my mind all day. I had been travelling on a bike in this morning and singing the first stanza repeatedly.

Just settled down, searched to praise God in the complete hymn. To God be the glory in Christ Jesus. Amen.

This song came to mind this early morning 5am. I searched for the lyrics. I am grateful to God for calling me to Himself as a child. Everything is becoming more clearer. I don't know how I could have survived without You in my life. Thank You Lord for Your help in ages past, now and forever. Am so grateful for Your love so secured. Help me to give You my all Oh Lord, Amen
