Jesus is all the world to me

Experience of Christ As Everything

1
Jesus is all the world to me:
My life, my joy, my all.
He is my strength from day to day;
Without Him I would fall.
When I am sad, to Him I go;
No other one can cheer me so.
When I am sad, He makes me glad;
He’s my Friend.
2
Jesus is all the world to me,
My Friend in trials sore.
I go to Him for blessings, and
He gives them o’er and o’er.
He sends the sunshine and the rain;
He sends the harvest’s golden grain:
Sunshine and rain, harvest of grain—
He’s my Friend.
3
Jesus is all the world to me,
And true to Him I’ll be.
Oh, how could I this Friend deny
When He’s so true to me?
Following Him I know I’m right;
He watches o’er me day and night.
Following Him by day and night,
He’s my Friend.
4
Jesus is all the world to me,
I want no better friend.
I trust Him now; I’ll trust Him when
Life’s fleeting days shall end.
Beautiful life with such a Friend;
Beautiful life that has no end!
Eternal life, eternal joy,
He’s my Friend.

Woke up this morning with this song on my heart and had to look the words up. I thank God that they were easy to find. This is a cherished song from my childhood church. Jesus is still All the World to me. Hallelujah Lord Jesus!!!

I struggle with carrying the burdens of others. I know it's a sin to not lay them and leave them at the cross... but when I whisper God help me.... or just say Jesus come quickly.... he ALWAYS sends me a song. Sometimes it's a crazy Life destruction song to remind me of consequences... but I still rare back and let it blow.... however He always always always sends me the comfort and confidence of a cherished hymn or song of Praise. I am NOTHING without the hope and love of our Creator and the gracious love of trying again to get it right the next day. This song is healing to my chronic pain and anxiety.... it reminds me to NEVER BE AFRAID TO STAND ALONE

I was somewhat somewhat discouraged and depressed after the events this past week. Then this morning this hymn came to me. I see that God sends the blessings. He even sends the harvest. He causes the sunshine and the rain. It is not on me. It is on my friend’s shoulders. I just need to trust Him more each day. Here is the verse of the hymn that touched me.

Jesus is all the world to me,

My Friend in trials sore.

I go to Him for blessings, and He gives them o’er and o’er. He sends the sunshine and the rain; He sends the harvest’s golden grain: Sunshine and rain, harvest of grain— He’s my Friend.

I experienced His friendship this morning. He is always willing to listen. He blessed me this morning with Himself and showed me I need to trust Him more for little and bid things.

Will Thompson was a renowned songwriter, and at the age of sixteen he wrote two very popular songs. He was on his way to becoming a career music writer, but later he committed his life to the service of Christ and focused on writing hymns. His best known creation is the song of invitation “Softly and Tenderly Jesus is Calling. ”

Will Thompson (1847-1909) was born in Pennsylvania, but his family moved to Ohio while he was still young. His father was a businessman who served in the Ohio Legislature. Thompson developed an early interest in music and wrote several songs before finishing high-school. He first graduated from Alliance College, and then later graduated from the New England Conservatory of Music as well as studying music in Leipzig, Germany. As a young man, Will sent out a package of four songs to a publisher, asking payment of $100 for the package of four. The publisher responded with the counter-offer of $25, which Thompson declined. When he couldn’t get what he considered to be a fair price for his music, he decided to go into business for himself. He started a music store in East Liverpool in association with his father‘s business and another outlet in Chicago. Then he went into the mail-order business, selling sheet music and music books. He marketed his music by sending copies to various minstrel shows which were popular at the time—and may had paid some minstrels to sing his songs. He quickly became known as the “Bard of Ohio. ” He wrote one of his songs in only ten minutes! It sold 246, 000 copies.

At one time, after attending a D. L. Moody evangelistic meeting, he decided to devote himself to writing and promoting Christian music. He wrote “Softly and Tenderly Jesus is Calling” in 1880. It quickly became a favorite hymn of invitation in Moody’s evangelistic meetings, and was included in church hymnals as well. Thompson wrote “Jesus is all the World to Me” in 1904, which also became well- renowned of among Christians.

Dwight L. Moody, the most famous evangelist of his day used “Softly and Tenderly“ as an invitational hymn in his meetings. Thompson visited Moody as he was dying, and Moody told him, “Will, I would rather have written ‘Softly and Tenderly, Jesus is Calling’ than anything I have been able to do in my life. ” Thompson continued to live a life of service and support various Civic and Cristian ministries generously. He was also aware of the fact that small town people had very little exposure to gospel music, so he loaded up his piano on a horse-drawn wagon and went throughout small Ohio towns, giving music concerts.

Thompson became ill on a trip to Europe in 1909, and died shortly thereafter.

This was one of my favorite songs during our 17 years at Bellevue Baptist Church in Memphis. I can almost hear Jim Whitmire leading the congregation now. I enjoy accessing the music and lyrics online and singing to the Lord. It brings back wonderful memories of our years under the teaching and leafing of Dr. Adrian Rogers. I am looking forward to hearing his booming voice when I get to Heaven. It won't be long now, as I turned 80 last Saturday.

The song was the major song of one of the retreat held by Deeper Life Bible Church. I was in children church then. Despite the fact that I was a child when it happened, it left and impression on me and it have become one of my most favorite song since. Now, navigating the world as an adult, “Jesus is all the world to me”, and “Following him, I know I am right”, “He is my friend”.
