@ERIC - those were not written by Newton. The stanza's you are referring to were added later, and is believed to come from a different hymn called “Jerusalem, My Happy Home” (from the 18th century), or perhaps from a 19th-century American adaptation.

it's missing the most emotional part of the song the part that talks about what is going to happen to all of us death and the fact that this life we have is only temporary this is important because all sin is based on temporary lies and gratification

Love this song! I was in a bad way health wise after heart various hear procedures. At the time I was not close to God although I have always believed. As I sat at home looking out my window recuperating, I asked God for a sign that he was listening to my prayers , as I looked at the tree outside my window, I saw in the leaves the brightest white dove formed by the sunlight and the leaves . He answered me on more than one occasion ! Praise the Lord and keep the faith no matter what comes your way, God bless you all !!
