Down at the cross

Gospel Testimony

English1066
1
Down at the cross where my Savior died,
Down where for cleansing from sin I cried,
There to my sin was the blood applied;
Glory to His name!

Glory to His name,
Glory to His name;
There to my sin was the blood applied;
Glory to His name!
2
I am so wondrously saved from sin,
Jesus so sweetly abides within;
There at the cross where He took me in;
Glory to His name.
3
Oh, precious fountain that saves from sin,
I am so glad I have entered in;
There Jesus saves me and keeps me clean;
Glory to His name.
4
Come to this fountain so rich and sweet;
Cast thy poor soul at the Savior’s feet;
Plunge in today, and be made complete;
Glory to His name.

Glory to His name! We stand on the blood of Christ, our only standing. We proclaim the power of the blood. Hallelujah! Satan has been defeated on the cross! Jesus is Lord! Christ is King! 😀

THE FORGIVENESS OF SINS

AND THE CLEANSING AWAY OF SINS

In His full salvation, God first forgives us of our sins and cleanses us of our sins. When we receive God's full salvation, the first items we enjoy are God's forgiveness of our sins and His cleansing away of our sins.

"Without shedding of blood there is no forgiveness"

(Heb. 9:22).

God's forgiveness of sins is based on the shedding of blood 19] for redemption. Because He is righteous, God cannot forgive men's sins without a cause. His righteousness requires that all who sin must die (Ezek. 18:4). Unless His righteous requirement is satisfied, His righteousness cannot allow Him to forgive sinners of their sins. But since the Lord Jesus died and shed His blood on the cross according to the righteousness of God, thus satisfying God's righteous requirement, God can legally forgive men of their sins according to His righteousness. The Lord Jesus said, "This is My blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for forgiveness of sins" (Matt. 26:28). Since the blood of the Lord Jesus was shed for men according to God's righteousness, thus fulfilling God's righteous requirement, it has become the basis upon which the sins of those who believe in Him may be forgiven.

Praise the Lord! The glory of God is involved with every step of the process that Christ went through – His incarnation, His human living, His death, His resurrection, His ascension, and His coming back. Glory to His name 😀

This hymn came to me this morning. I had to spend some time musing on it. It is clear the author had a deep experience of God’s cleansing blood and redemption. This must of really impacted him since he wrote several more hymns on redemption. I see the value of these spiritual hymns. They help me delve deeper into Christ and the experience of Him. Thank you Lord you shed your blood for my sins while I was yet a sinner. Sin is dealt with once and for all and I still need it applied to me daily for cleansing. Thank You Lord for this fountain so deep and wide. It can make the foulest clean!

This song is beautiful! The words should lead us to the word of God to read in Roman's chapters 3, 4, and 5 that deal with what this song is so wonderfully expressing. "Righteousness by faith" or Justification! Great is God's love, mercy, and long-suffering towards us that while we were yet sinners Jesus the Christ died for us!

Elisha Albright Hoffman was born May 7, 1839, in Orwigsburg, Pennsylvania to a minister named Francis Hoffman. At a young age, Elisha accepted Christ as his Savior. He attended the Philadelphia public schools, studied science, and then studied the classics at Union Seminary at the Evangelical Association. When he was 24, the Civil War had been raging for two years, and he enlisted as a Private in the Union Army on July 9, 1863 with Company A, 47th Infantry Regiment, Pennsylvania. He was discharged just over a month later on August 14, 1863, a couple years before the war ended.

About 1866, Elisha married Susan M Orwig, he was about 26 and she was about 22. He worked for the Evangelical Association Publishing House in Cleveland, Ohio, for 11 years. He was ordained by the Presbyterian Church in 1873, at the age of 34. Two years later in 1876, his wife, Susan died, leaving him with three young boys. He was never formally trained in music, but he wrote over 2, 000 hymns, providing both the words and the tune for the most of them. He assisted in compiling and editing 50 song books!
