Onward Christian soldiers

English871

Onward Christian soldiers!
Marching as to war,
With the cross of Jesus
Going on before.
Christ, the royal Master,
Leads against the foe;
Forward into battle,
See, His banners go!

Onward, Christian soldiers!
Marching as to war,
With the cross of Jesus,
Going on before.

At the name of Jesus
Satan's host doth flee;
On then, Christian soldiers,
On to victory!
Hell's foundations quiver
At the shout of praise:
Brothers, lift your voices,
Loud your anthems raise!

Like a mighty army
Moves the Church of God:
Brothers, we are treading
Where the saints have trod;
We are not divided,
All one Body we—
One in faith and Spirit,
One eternally.

Crowns and thrones may perish,
Kingdoms rise and wane;
But the Church of Jesus
Constant will remain.
Gates of hell can never
'Gainst the Church prevail;
We have Christ's own promise,
Which can never fail.

Onward, then, ye people!
Join our happy throng;
Blend with ours your voices
In the triumph song.
Glory, laud and honor
Unto Christ, the King;
This through countless ages
Men and angels sing.

Prime Minister Winston Churchill joined in with the people who were on a navy ship in August of 1942 singing this song. It was during World War 2.

I love this hymn, which we do not sing in church anymore, but we are in the Lord’s army and onward we march on. We will raise the banner and proclaim His Name! Jesus Christ Our Lord and Savior!! Hallelullia!!

Chris

Long time since I've got to sing that hymn in church. Where are Christ's soldiers today? For the remnant it's an existing time to be alive. Lace up those boots and start marching and holding the banner high. On to victory praise the King of Kings

What a beautiful song that I learned as a teenager in high school in Nairobi!

This is the time to march on as Christians irregardless of the opposition we face daily, from all sides. Am encouraged.

I have not heard this song since childhood. Today during prayer I felt the calling of The Lord speaking to His kingdom. Rise Up! Rise up! And I heard this song in my head. This is our call Christians! Be alert. Be prepared. Stand up. Speak up boldly. Pray with authority. Speak in The Name of Jesus in authority over the enemy. Speak Jesus over pain, depression, anxiety, brokenness, addiction, poverty, anger and wounded ness. Speak Jesus over our families.. over our homes .. over our neighbors.. over all creation. Thy kingdom come... Thy will be done. Praise God Almighty.

I remember this song as a younger person around 1st or 2nd grade they would sing this in class often and/or the church my mother sent me to. Same place... school & church in Portsmouth Virgina (Central Baptist). I only recall the first verse up above here. I am pondering this today as we are instructed not to be aggressive and do God's will, but I cannot find it within myself to rule out the need for police and army of our country to keep the aggressors from totally destroying us and our ability to worship. We have got to be aggressive against our transgressors IMHO. I don't know if that is correct, but that is how I see things.
