I like this hymn. The psalmist writes 'lead me to the rock that is higher than I'. We all need protecting from difficulty at times, and the protection may come from a rock shielding us from the heat of a battle.
The Lord Jesus is THE rock who is higher (in Heaven) than any of us. He alone can protect us from the burden and consequences of our sin, as Saviour of His people. This hymn speaks much of how wonderful the Lord Jesus is. He can be our salvation rock, higher than we are, from the guilt and punishment of our sin if we repent and believe the gospel.
To God be the glory, great things He has done!
