Sometimes a light surprises The Christian while he sings; It is the Lord who rises With healing in His wings; When comforts are declining, He grants the soul again A season of clear shining, To cheer it after rain.

In holy contemplation We sweetly then pursue The theme of God’s salvation, And find it ever new; Set free from present sorrow, We cheerfully can say— E’en let the unknown morrow Bring with it what it may.

It can bring with it nothing, But He will bear us through; Who gives the lilies clothing, Will clothe His people too: Beneath the spreading heavens No creature but is fed; And He, who feeds the ravens, Will give His children bread.
It can bring with it nothing,
But He will bear us through;
Who gives the lilies clothing,
Will clothe His people too:
Beneath the spreading heavens
No creature but is fed;
And He, who feeds the ravens,
Will give His children bread.

Though vine nor fig tree neither Their wonted fruit shall bear; Though all the fields should wither Nor flocks nor herds be there; Yet God the same abiding, His praise shall tune my voice, For, while in Him confiding, I cannot but rejoice.
I truly I've not come acrossed this song in years but just a few nights passed in my dream I saw myself in a gathering singing this song and when I woke up to recall on it I came online to search for the lyrics so I could understand properly the message passed in the dream and then it occurred to me that the song is a compensation and a consolidation at the same time considering the ups and downs I've been experiencing and almost living in doubts of every miraculous expectations I have... this song has told me that God has not finished with me there's hope, the part where it says "When comforts are declining, he grants the soul again"simply explains reassurrance over and over again.. I'm most grateful for God for hope restored.
I was given this hymn in my dream today, it's a hymn I sang last almost 40yrs ago during devotions in my secondary school days and was surprised I could remember the first 2 lines. Glad I woke up and remembered the dream so I typed the first line on Google and here it is. I have been on my bed trying to digest line by line the lyrics and have hot tears streaming down my face. I am currently at my low having lost my job 2 months ago. I fear God, this song has truly confirmed to me one fact that God sees and understands our pains. I am comforted and my faith is stronger in Elroi..
The last time I heard this song was over 30 years ago, yet today out of nowhere this song was place in my heart by the Holy Spirit. I could only remember the first two words and nothing more. But praise God, because after typing the two words into Google Search, the lyrics showed up and the second page that I opened was the correct lyrics.
I believe God lead me to this song in this season. I hear His voice speaking to my current circumstance. Thank you for the lyrics 'they don't sing songs this good anymore'
This is about my 50th time listening to this beautiful song. I wanted to get deep down into my soul. I’m so grateful for the words. I’m so grateful for this wonderful melody line. I have decided that this will be the theme for my art year for my students as I always seek the Lord for a biblical theme for each new year’s curriculum. God bless you for producing music that brings him all glory.
The light of this hymn broke forth into my life in 1987 and ever since I have lived and basked in the light of God’s abiding presence. His faithfulness has endured in my life. I testify that every truth in this hymn is validly valid. Hallelujah Praise Jesus
Great song from a great life, inspired by a GREAT GOD.
Yes, "When comforts are declining,
He grants the soul again
A season of clear shining,
To cheer it after rain".
