Why should we tarry when Jesus is pleading—
Pleading for you and for me?
Why should we linger and heed not His mercies—
Mercies for you and for me?
Pleading for you and for me?
Why should we linger and heed not His mercies—
Mercies for you and for me?

Time is now fleeting, the moments are passing—
Passing from you and from me;
Shadows are gathering, death-beds are coming—
Coming for you and for me!
Passing from you and from me;
Shadows are gathering, death-beds are coming—
Coming for you and for me!

Oh, for the wonderful love He has promised—
Promised for you and for me!
Though we have sinned, He has mercy and pardon—
Pardon for you and for me!
Promised for you and for me!
Though we have sinned, He has mercy and pardon—
Pardon for you and for me!

A wretched sinner like me. Jesus pardons me and welcomes me home. What a loving father. My soul is blessed

God woke me up this morning with this glorious song. It is very soothing and refreshing for the mind, body and spirit. I entered into worship with this song and it was truly a blessing.
I give God the glory

Confess Master Jesus and believe His death is effective to save and His Resurrection brings righteousness. Answer His call by Paul's gospel, and repent toward Christ. :^D Let all of *us* know we *are* going home, indeed, by *His* faithfulness to get all our Father chose to give to Him.

Expressing the Love of God to sinners makes that hymn my favourite

For sure Jesus is calling for the souls that have gone astray from His ways. Let us cling on His cross for the Calvary blood is still wet and it will wash away all our sinful nature and will give rise to the immortal spirit! Blessed!

Will L. Thompson was born at East Liverpool Ohio, on November 7, 1847. His father, Josiah Thompson, was a member of the Ohio State Legislature for two terms. Will attended the Boston Music School from 1870-73. He continued to study music in Germany. His desire was to be a music writer. After a very successful career in secular music, Thompson began to write gospel hymns. He also started a publishing and music store business in East Liverpool and in Chicago, Illinois. Even though he earned a lot of money, his business associates described him as having a kind, quiet and unassuming nature of a “Christian gentleman. ” Thompson was also known for driving around by horse and buggy from one small town to another throughout Ohio singing his songs to people everywhere.
Will Thompson was a personal friend of D. L. Moody. This particular hymn was a one of Moody’s favorites. It is said that on his deathbed while being visited by Mr. Thompson, Moody feebly whispered, “Will, I would rather have written ‘Softly and Tenderly’ than anything I have been able to do in my whole life. ” This hymn was widely used as an invitation hymn in the great evangelistic meetings conducted by Moody and Sankey throughout Great Britain and in the United States.
