Go, labor on; spend, and be spent

1
Go, labor on; spend, and be spent;
  Thy joy to do the Father’s will;
It is the way the Master went;
  Should not the servant tread it still?

Go, labor on: ’tis not for nought;
  Thy earthly loss is heav’nly gain;
Men heed thee, love thee, praise thee not;
  The Master praises, what are men?
Go, labor on: ’tis not for nought;
  Thy earthly loss is heav’nly gain;
Men heed thee, love thee, praise thee not;
  The Master praises, what are men?
3
Go, labor on; your hands are weak,
  Your knees are faint, your souls cast down;
Yet falter not; the prize you seek
  Is near, a kingdom and a crown.
Go, labor on; your hands are weak,
  Your knees are faint, your souls cast down;
Yet falter not; the prize you seek
  Is near, a kingdom and a crown.
4
Go, labor on while it is day,
  The world’s dark night is hastening on;
Speed, speed thy work, cast sloth away,
  It is not thus that souls are won.
Go, labor on while it is day,
  The world’s dark night is hastening on;
Speed, speed thy work, cast sloth away,
  It is not thus that souls are won.
5
Men die in darkness at your side,
  Without a hope to cheer the tomb;
Take up the torch and wave it wide,
  The torch that lights time’s thickest gloom.
Men die in darkness at your side,
  Without a hope to cheer the tomb;
Take up the torch and wave it wide,
  The torch that lights time’s thickest gloom.
6
Press on, faint not, keep watch and pray;
  Be wise the erring soul to win;
Go forth into the world’s highway,
  Compel the wanderer to come in.
Press on, faint not, keep watch and pray;
  Be wise the erring soul to win;
Go forth into the world’s highway,
  Compel the wanderer to come in.
7
Press on, and in thy work rejoice;
  For work comes rest, the prize thus won;
Soon shalt thou hear the Master’s voice,
  The midnight cry, Behold, I come!
Press on, and in thy work rejoice;
  For work comes rest, the prize thus won;
Soon shalt thou hear the Master’s voice,
  The midnight cry, Behold, I come!

It is so encouraging to see so many people of Ghanaian heritage here. Amidst the so called poverty God has cradled us and revealed His knowledge to us through our education system we had and churches. I pray that it is the same now and the children are not lacking in this generation. Together with all the other saints from all parts of this world we shall sing 'God made us all and God is good'. To God be the glory. Amen

The Master was rejected and humiliated and we must also endure and labour for Him. No servant is greater than his Master.

This hymn reminds me of the commission our Master has charged us with, go forth and preach the gospel to all mankind, baptizing them into the Triune God. This is a sobering word from the Lord Jesus to all the saints all over the world! I'm really humbled by this hymn. Jesus is Lord! Amen!

I knew of this song since I was a child, we used to sing it in our school all the time, never thought of the words, until over forty years it began to sink into my heart about the wonderful words the writer put into it, it's refreshing, soothing and encouraging. It makes you want to serve the Living God more and more.

Tears, tears, tear.... Still thinking of the wasted years of idleness and slothfulness. I must not go an empty handed. I must not meet my saviour so. Not even a soul to greet Him? Noooo.........not so.....

Nooo. He must smile upon beholding my face....

So inspiring and challenging enough to push you on in the Christian faith and struggle.
