Christ our Redeemer died on the cross

1
Christ our Redeemer died on the cross,
  Died for the sinner, paid all his due;
Sprinkle your soul with the blood of the Lamb,
  “And I will pass, will pass over you.”
  “When I see the blood,
When I see the blood,
When I see the blood,
  I will pass, I will pass over you.”
2
Chiefest of sinners, Jesus will save;
  All He has promised, that will He do;
Wash in the fountain opened for sin,
  “And I will pass, will pass over you.”
3
Judgment is coming, all will be there,
  Each one receiving justly his due;
Hide in the saving, sin-cleansing blood,
  “And I will pass, will pass over you.”
4
O great compassion! O boundless love!
  O loving kindness, faithful and true!
Find peace and shelter under the blood,
  “And I will pass, will pass over you.”

Great song. I pray that the message of the true gospel of grace..the forgiveness of sin and acceptance in Christ without any demand for penance will be our only message to the world and taught in our churches too. Christ Jesus is the only hope we have in this world.

Philip

Nice to see this unabridged version.

As a child, I grew up in church singing this song. Now, a few days before my 58th birthday, I wanted to sing this song for my meditation before prayer. Thank you for having the words to this song on your website. It gives me strength in my walk to remember that the Blood still covers me as I continue to make holiness a lifestyle in a wicked world. Christ Jesus, thank You for Your Blood!

The song is highly inspirational. I am refreshed whenever I sing it. It affirms the particularity of Jesus Christ and His saving power. I pray the words will bless every soul that listens to or read the lyric. Shalom.

The song says all paymnets have been fully paid for my sin. Always reminds me of what happened in Egypt when the Israelites were delivered. Just today when I remembered a ill that might happen, I quickly remembered the angel of evil will pass over me because the blood covers me. The passover lamb Jesus has been slain for me. The song also makes me feel the responsibility of keepin away from sin while also assuring of atonement in case I fall into sin.

YOUR BROTHER IN JESUS (PETER)

Many people like to talk about the passover, but not many realize that the crucial point of the passover is related to eating the flesh of the lamb. They talk about the blood and also love to sing "When I see the blood, / When I see the blood, / When I see the blood, / I will pass, I will pass over you" (Hymns, #1005). The blood is precious; however, they do not see that after applying the blood, there is still a need to eat the flesh of the lamb, gird their loins, and put sandals on their feet in preparation for their journey (Exo. 12:6-11). If we only apply the blood for a month, but do not eat the flesh of the lamb, how can we journey on? If I did not eat for just two or three days, I would not be able to give a message properly. Each time I give a message, it seems as if I am livelier than the young people. This energy comes from eating; eating well gives us strength.

First Corinthians 5 tells us that Christ is our Passover (v. 7). He is the Passover lamb. When those in Christianity use the passover lamb for gospel preaching, they always stress the blood. We have a good hymn, the chorus of which says, "When I see the blood,...I will pass over you" (Hymns, #1005). But we need to see that with the passover lamb there is something in addition to the blood. That is the meat. The blood had to be shed, and the meat of the lamb had to be eaten. The striking of the blood was for the eating of the meat. They applied the blood to the house, and then in the house they ate. The striking of the blood was not the goal; the eating of the meat was. Christ is the real Passover lamb, and He has been sacrificed for us, not only to redeem us but also to satisfy us. His blood redeemed us, and His life satisfies us.
