My song is love unknown

Praise of the Lord His Suffering

Neue Melodien96
1
My song is love unknown,
My Savior’s love to me;
Love to the loveless shown,
That they might lovely be.
O who am I,
That for my sake
My Lord should take
Frail flesh, and die?
2
He came from His blest throne
Salvation to bestow;
But men made strange, and none
The longed-for Christ would know:
But oh, my Friend,
My Friend indeed,
Who at my need
His life did spend.
3
Sometimes they strew His way,
And His sweet praises sing;
Resounding all the day
Hosannas to their King:
Then “Crucify!”
Is all their breath,
And for His death
They thirst and cry.
4
They rise and needs will have
My dear Lord made away;
A murderer they save,
The Prince of life they slay.
Yet cheerful He
To suffering goes,
That He His foes
From thence might free.
5
In life, no house, no home
My Lord on earth might have;
In death, no friendly tomb,
But what a stranger gave.
What may I say?
Heav’n was His home;
But mine the tomb
Wherein He lay.
6
Here might I stay and sing,
No story so divine;
Never was love, dear King,
Never was grief like Thine.
This is my Friend,
In whose sweet praise
I all my days
Could gladly spend.

Really a love story. What a great love, to die for anyone, much less your enemy. For this God, the Father who willing let it happen, waooh!! Can you imagine giving up your only child? Even if you have 12, will you give up one? A great love from an awesome and great God and Son. Lord I pray for grace to love and trust You more and more with every breath in me in Jesus matchless name, Amen.

From my secondary school days in the seventies and eighties I came to love this song which meaning unfold more and more as I grow. Whenever the song comes to me, I remember Good Friday. Today I had to search for it online to sing it. I know that no matter the amount of tears I shed singing this song, if my life does not reflect the love of the Almighty through His son Jesus Christ's, and the sacrifice of the Lord Christ, my tears are in vain.

Samuel Crossman, 1624-1683 O sweet Lord Jesus, love of mine. Thank You that You chose to suffer and die for me. For my sins. Then in triumph over sin and death rise again, alive, for me, for us all. I love You Lord Jesus with all my heart, all my soul, all my strength.

Well loved hymn, so truly conveys the suffering of my Saviour for me and for all mankind. Never missed to use it for Palm Sunday and Good Friday Services for long time now in my ministry. The Lord be eternally praised.

I heard the lovely Lesley Garrett sing this on a BBC "Songs of Praise" broadcast a few years ago. Beautiful! I love the words and the Savior who inspired them.

One of my favourites since I first found it in "Hymns of Faith" Scripture Union, UK. If you like this one, look for "Thou wast rich beyond all splendour" (in same book). Words beautiful and full of meaning; don't be put off by old language forms in first line. Music fits, with a more complex harmony. 9 8. 9 8. 9 8
