My goal is God Himself

Longings For God

Neue Melodien350
1
My goal is God Himself, not joy, nor peace,
Nor even blessing, but Himself, my God;
’Tis His to lead me there—not mine, but His—
At any cost, dear Lord, by any road.
2
So faith bounds forward to its goal in God,
And love can trust her Lord to lead her there;
Upheld by Him, my soul is following hard
Till God hath full fulfilled my deepest prayer.
3
No matter if the way be sometimes dark,
No matter though the cost be oft-times great,
He knoweth how I best shall reach the mark,
The way that leads to Him must needs be strait.
4
One thing I know, I cannot say Him nay;
One thing I do, I press towards my Lord;
My God my glory here, from day to day,
And in the glory there my great Reward.

:-) Thoroughly enjoyed this hymn during the CSU Fullerton retreat before school started. Won't forget the pleasant memories when we sung this with Martin, Yeezy, Frank, CrystAllison, and Alissa after the home meeting.

I reckon that this prayer is a 'dangerous' one as our dear Saviour takes us at our word.... just as we take Him at His.

However - always well worth it. Our delight is to delight Him and I believe this prayer does give Him huge JOY.

Lord please be my only love and my only desire. Lord Jesus please do it. Make the words of this song true in me. We love You so much. You do deserve our all and everything. Amen.

I love this hymn very much. I enjoy it greatly any time I sing it. I just can't say which is my favourite stanza, because they all touch me very much. One thing I know, I cannot say to Him nay! Amen!

My physician gave this hymn to me. When one gets so low in mind and spirit, all that really matters is God Himself. His Presence alone can lift one up from the pit of despair. My goal is to 'ask'...'seek'...and 'knock' that I might find God Himself in all His glory.

Jesus taught us to do that in Matthew 7:7. Awesome!

This song comes again and again to my heart in the pursuit of this God of glory who loved us to death on the cross of Christ. Eternal life is knowing GOD and Jesus Christ (John 17:3). To taste of Him is to want more of this beautiful Jesus. Do you know Him?

Oh Lord! How enlightening to sing this hymn. So many times, my goal is so many other things even joy and peace. But I want nothing else but God Himself. Lord Jesus, replace anything and everything that is not of You.

God Himself is our only goal! By the faith that He has infused into us we know that everything else is vain. Oh, what a joy! He Himself is our everything!

O Lord Jesus. Our goal is God himself. Nothing else is worth living for. No words an express such love, but this hymn comes close.
