Be Thou my vision, O Lord of my heart

Longings For Vision of Christ

1
Be Thou my vision, O Lord of my heart;
Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art;
Thou my best thought, by day or by night;
Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light.
2
Be Thou my wisdom, and Thou my true Word;
I ever with Thee and Thou with me, Lord;
Thou my great Father and I, Thy true son;
Thou in me dwelling, and I with Thee one.
3
Riches I heed not, nor man’s empty praise;
Thou mine inheritance, now and always;
Thou and Thou only, first in my heart;
O King of glory, my treasure Thou art.
4
O King of glory, my victory won;
Rule and reign in me ’til Thy will be done;
Heart of my own heart, whatever befall;
Still be my vision, O Ruler of all.

My favourite hymn of all time, reminds me to keep my eyes fixed on Jesus whatever comes my way- breakthroughs or challenges. "Heart of my own heart, whatever befall. Still be my vision, O Ruler of all".

For over a month now, this tune has been in my head. I knew that I knew it, but couldn’t remember. At 70, there are a lot things that slip my mind. And although I was near constantly humming it, all that would come to mind was “Save that thou art”. So finally I searched it and happy I did.

I love this song. I wept as I sang it this past St. Patrick’s day as I was reminded of my Irish heritage. Praise the Lord we are all One in Him!

This is missing:

Be Thou my Breastplate, my Sword for the fight;
be Thou my whole Armor, be Thou my true Might;
be Thou my soul’s Shelter, be Thou my strong Tow’r,
O raise Thou me heav’nward, great Pow’r of my pow’r.
