Jesus! I am resting, resting

Experience of Christ Resting on Him

English579
1
Jesus! I am resting, resting
In the joy of what Thou art;
I am finding out the greatness
Of Thy loving heart.
Thou hast bid me gaze upon Thee,
And Thy beauty fills my soul,
For, by Thy transforming power,
Thou hast made me whole.

Jesus! I am resting, resting
In the joy of what Thou art;
I am finding out the greatness
Of Thy loving heart.
2
Oh, how great Thy loving kindness,
Vaster, broader than the sea:
Oh, how marvelous Thy goodness,
Lavished all on me!
Yes, I rest in Thee, Beloved,
Know what wealth of grace is Thine,
Know Thy certainty of promise,
And have made it mine.
3
Simply trusting Thee, Lord Jesus,
I behold Thee as Thou art,
And Thy love, so pure, so changeless,
Satisfies my heart,
Satisfies its deepest longings,
Meets, supplies its every need,
Compasseth me round with blessings,
Thine is love indeed.
4
Ever lift Thy face upon me,
As I work and wait for Thee;
Resting ’neath Thy smile, Lord Jesus,
Earth’s dark shadows flee.
Brightness of my Father’s glory,
Sunshine of my Father’s face,
Keep me ever trusting, resting,
Fill me with Thy grace.

Came across this group accidentally and they were singing this song. Learned it on Sunday School and it has been many years since I have heard it. It truly thrilled my soul. I have been listening it ever since. Truly the hymns learned from childhood stays with you. I am now 83yrs. Praise God for the blessing of life and the precious promise of Rest that God has promised to us.

Praise God for the beautiful and inspired songs of Zion.

I was reminded of this hymn this morning - had not sung or thought of it for years but was re- reading Terry Virgo’s ‘God’s Lavish Grace ‘ and was reminded as I showered of these precious words …. So true that words sung in one’s youth remain … I’m now 73! Praise God !

This was Hudson Taylor's favorite song.

Taylor: "If you are not trusting you are not resting, and if you are not resting you are not trusting."

Matt. 11:28-30 reveals a wonderful aspect of what the Lord Jesus is to us – the Lord Jesus is our rest.

Praise the Lord! The Lord Jesus sounded out a call two thousand years ago saying that all who toil and are burdened can come to Him and He will give them rest.

Years ago I played this on the piano accompanied by the organist on Sunday’s mornings when it was on the program. I have often, since then, found myself singing the chorus day or night. Even in the middle of the night when unable to sleep. Will share it vocally tomorrow at Bible Study hoping others know it and will join me in song.

I lead worship for a college ministry, and we sing this song about once a month with our college group. The words are such an encouragement to me, as I know I cannot do the work of ministry on my own and need to rest every day in the joy of who Jesus is. I trust and pray that as we sing this song it will get buried deep in the hearts of these college students and will carry them through hard times to come.

We’ll I’m here in Long Beach resting too Lucia, it is many times our circumstances that force us to come to Him like Hannah in the book of Samuel. It is then we begin to realize more of who He is as we see in this hymn and trust Him in our circumstances even though we are under a dark cloud I think it says v. 4. Praise the Lord!
