What a fellowship, what a joy divine,
Leaning on the Everlasting Arms!
What a blessedness, what a peace is mine,
Leaning on the Everlasting Arms!
Leaning on the Everlasting Arms!
What a blessedness, what a peace is mine,
Leaning on the Everlasting Arms!
Leaning, leaning,
Safe and secure from all alarms;
Leaning, leaning,
Leaning on the Everlasting Arms.
Safe and secure from all alarms;
Leaning, leaning,
Leaning on the Everlasting Arms.

O how sweet to walk in this pilgrim way,
Leaning on the Everlasting Arms!
O how bright the path grows from day to day,
Leaning on the Everlasting Arms!
Leaning on the Everlasting Arms!
O how bright the path grows from day to day,
Leaning on the Everlasting Arms!

What have I to dread, what have I to fear,
Leaning on the Everlasting Arms!
I have peace complete with my Lord so near,
Leaning on the Everlasting Arms!
Leaning on the Everlasting Arms!
I have peace complete with my Lord so near,
Leaning on the Everlasting Arms!

It’s great to have the tunes, my memories of the songs sound better with the tunes. The old hymns have stayed in my heart and mind. This makes it so much better to sing them.

Anthony Showalter studied music in England, France, and Germany. He also taught music, and published over 130 music books. One day, the postman delivered letters from two of his former students. Each letter brought the tragic news that the men’s wives had died, both on the same day. Showalter responded to each one giving encouragement and comfort as he was able. He included Deuteronomy 33:27–“The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms. ”
Mr. Showalter, recounted later, “Before completing the writing of a sentence, the thought came to me the fact that we may lean on those everlasting arms and find comfort and strength to be put into a song. ” Just as he was finishing the letters, the words and music of the refrain were written. He then sent his newly composed music to his friend, the writer, Elisha Hoffman, who then came up with three stanzas to match. Out of the comforting letters sent to his former widowed students the hymn, “Leaning on the Everlasting Arms, ” was born.

Yes without Jesus Christ we are absolutely nothing. What a Friend O such a friend am glad he loves me and has given me the freedom to choose and I choose Him to serve Him to the end. And my motto is Death Before Dishonor my Jesus Christ gave all for me so though not worthy I desire to live for Him.

1 What a fellowship,
what a joy sublime*,
drinking of His very life divine,
How can we resist such a fellowship?
where our oneness can be clearly seen?
Jesus, Jesus,
Jesus the one we hold so dear,
Jesus, Jesus,
When we call we see how real you are!
2 What have we to fear?
Jesus Christ so near,
we shall ever dwell in His great love.
Oh how glorious what a peace of mind
when we trust in His life giving word.
Jesus, Jesus,
Jesus the one we hold so dear,
Jesus, Jesus,
When we call we see How real you are!
3 Even in despair,
We can pray to Him,
Cast our burdens on His shoulders
Now!
Angst will disappear,
Filled with peace within,
Such a joy to trust in Him today!
Jesus, Jesus,
Jesus the one we hold so near,
Jesus, Jesus,
When we call, we see How near you are!

The times I failed woefully n my life have been those times I failed to depend on the Lord and thought I could do without Him. It is blessed to trust in and depend on Him Who never family.
I've been nourished by this song in no small measure.

I talked to an unbeliever once and he said religion is a crutch for weak people. Now I can say amen to that. Leaning on the Lord is wonderful. It is putting our trust in Him. I did lean on my own strength for a long time. Now that strength can’t help me. It is God that dealt with my pride and showed me how dependent I am on Him. Oh how bright the path grows each day leaning on His everlasting arms!
