The Lord’s my Shepherd, I’ll not want

Experience of Christ As Everything

English527
1
The Lord’s my Shepherd, I’ll not want;
He makes me down to lie
In pastures green; He leadeth me
The quiet waters by.
2
My soul He doth restore again,
And me to walk doth make
Within the paths of righteousness,
E’en for His own name’s sake.
3
Yea, though I walk in death’s dark vale,
Yet will I fear no ill;
For Thou art with me, and Thy rod
And staff me comfort still.
4
My table Thou hast furnished
In presence of my foes;
My head Thou dost with oil anoint,
And my cup overflows.
5
Goodness and mercy all my life
Shall surely follow me,
And in God’s house forevermore
My dwelling-place shall be.

We have lost our Mother and this is a hymn my Father is thinking of having at her funeral. I don't believe now but our Mother always did and this is a beautiful Psalm. Very poignant.

I'm glad that it's helped so many get through tough times.

When I was unsaved and at my deepest point of despair, suffering with depression and having suicidal thoughts (20 years), the tune to this beautiful hymn would come into my mind and I would hum it. As I hummed, the few words that I remembered of it from childhood, I would sing. More humming than singing!! As my Lord drew me nearer to himself I began to remember more of the words, which I wrote down, and I visited this site today to look for the rest of the lyrics to verses 3 and 4 which were still patchy. I thank The Lord for your site and may He bless you richly. I came to Jesus about a year and a half ago and in the "twinkling of an eye" I was reborn and haven't looked back. No more depression, suicidal tendencies, anger, anxiety, and all the other filth associated with the flesh, just His Life and Peace. I consider this hymn my lifeline in that dark time. I heard another testimony where this hymn also was the lifeline. I'm sure there are many more and I'd love to hear them. Your Word reaches from the beginning into eternity Father. Thank you! Come Jesus!!

I’m dealing with Multiple Myeloma (blood cancer) and the Lord just brought this encouraging and calming song to mind. Such a beautiful reminder of our Shepherd’s loving presence, provision, power and peace.

I just worked up and this song came into my mind and I searched for it. Truly it is a prayer that I love most in the Bible, it was the time when David gave the Lord all that He the Lord deserved from David. Most dear to my heart "goodness and mercy shall follow all the days in my life and I shall duel in the house of the Lord for evermore".

I woke up and this song came to mind. I searched the hymn books I have and could not get it and Google later came to mind. So useful having these songs on net. This song in particular always gives me an assurance of God's provision, protection and victory over the enemy.

Each time I sing or hear this song, I reflect on the closeness of David to God; I desire to love Him like David did and live a life of praise. The song renews my faith in God's abiding presence through Jesus and His Holy Spirit in me, no matter what I am going through.

My wife and I; one of our top two favorite hymns. I love playing it on my Yamaha organ, to Crimond, and always feel peaceful by the end.

Verse three of the hymn invariably generates a an overwhelmingly tearful emotion in me, because, when I played a recording of the hymn to my wife, then very sick on a hospital bed, during her last days, she broke into a sob and I had to terminate it.

I still love the hymn.
