Once it was the blessing

Experience of Christ As Everything

English513
1
Once it was the blessing,
Now it is the Lord;
Once it was the feeling,
Now it is His Word;
Once His gift I wanted,
Now, the Giver own;
Once I sought for healing,
Now Himself alone.

All in all forever,
Only Christ I’ll sing;
Everything is in Christ,
And Christ is everything.
2
Once ’twas painful trying,
Now ’tis perfect trust;
Once a half salvation,
Now the uttermost;
Once ’twas ceaseless holding,
Now He holds me fast;
Once ’twas constant drifting,
Now my anchor’s cast.
3
Once ’twas busy planning,
Now ’tis trustful prayer;
Once ’twas anxious caring,
Now He has the care;
Once ’twas what I wanted,
Now what Jesus says;
Once ’twas constant asking,
Now ’tis ceaseless praise.
4
Once it was my working,
His it hence shall be;
Once I tried to use Him,
Now He uses me;
Once the pow’r I wanted,
Now the Mighty One;
Once for self I labored,
Now for Him alone.
5
Once I hoped in Jesus,
Now I know He’s mine;
Once my lamps were dying,
Now they brightly shine;
Once for death I waited,
Now His coming hail;
And my hopes are anchored
Safe within the veil.

Everything is in Christ and Christ is everything! Christ in us is the hope of glory. May we all grow up into Him in all things. We have been crucified with Christ and it is no longer we who live, but Him alone!

Every time I sing this hymn, it reminds me that spiritual growth is mandate. In Kampala most Christians are taught to ask things from God. which isn't bad because he is our father he ought to provide. But its more interesting when we grow, to realize all we need is CHRIST. halleluiah Christ is everything.

It is “The Christ” whom we behold, oh how I seek your face dear Lord. All we need is Christ and Christ alone where all my hopes are anchored and the soul finds its rest. Praise You Lord Jesus!

A. B. Simpson (1843-1919), founder of the Christian and Missionary Alliance was one who practiced being one with the Lord. He once wrote;

“I wish to speak to you about Jesus, and Jesus only. I often hear people say, ‘I wish I could get hold of Divine healing. ’ I thank God we have been taught it is not the blessing; it is not the healing; it is not the sanctification; it is not the thing; it is not the ‘IT’ that you want but it is something better. It is ‘The Christ’; it is Himself; it is the person of Christ we want. It is the way to look at the Scriptures and understand the thoughts of God; to see Him in the face of love, shining through and through; not ideas of doctrine but Jesus Himself as the life and source and sustaining Presence all our life. I am no good unless I get alone with God.”

William Mc Arthur writes concerning A. B. Simpson: "His practice was to hush his spirit and literary cease to think. Then in the silence of his soul, he listened to that still small voice of God.”
