Christ liveth in me

Experience of Christ As Life

English507
1
Once far from God and dead in sin,
No light my heart could see;
But in God’s Word the light I found,
Now Christ liveth in me.

Christ liveth in me,
Christ liveth in me;
Oh! what a salvation this,
That Christ liveth in me.
2
As rays of light from yonder sun,
The flow’rs of earth set free,
So life and light and love come forth
From Christ living in me.
3
As lives the flow’r within the seed,
As in the cone the tree,
So, praise the Christ of truth and grace,
His Spirit dwelleth in me.
4
With longing all my heart is filled,
That like Him I may be,
As on the wondrous thought I dwell
That Christ liveth in me.

O truth above all truth, above all philosophy, all religions or religious founders, To whom could Buddha, or Confuscious, or Muhammad make such a claim as the claim that they will live in their worshippers, and their worshippers in them. How wonderful that we, who believe the Lord Jesus Christ rose from the dead, have His gift of salvation; and that gift is not predicated by reading about him, or just reverencing the remembrance of His teachings. We have this exceeding and precious truth, that He lives in us and we in Him.

III. EVEN WHEN WE WERE
DEAD IN OFFENSES
-----------------------------

God’s mercy reached us even when we were dead in offenses (v. 5). We did not deserve anything from God, but God had mercy upon us in our miserable situation.

IV. MAKING US ALIVE
TOGETHER WITH CHRIST
------------------------------------

Verse 5 says that we have been made alive together with Christ. The book of Ephesians does not consider us sinners as does the book of Romans; it considers us dead persons. As sinners we need God’s forgiveness and justification, as revealed in the book of Romans. But as dead persons we need to be made alive. Forgiveness and justification bring us back to God’s presence to enjoy His grace and participate in His life, whereas making us alive enables us, as the living members of the Body of Christ, to express Him. God made us alive by imparting His eternal life, which is Christ Himself (Col. 3:4), into our deadened spirit through His Spirit of life (Rom. 8:2). He has enlivened us with Christ. God enlivened us together when He enlivened the crucified Jesus. Therefore, He made us alive with Christ.

III. BECOMING A CRUCIAL ANCESTOR IN THE GENEALOGY TO BRING IN THE ROYAL HOUSE OF DAVID FOR THE PRODUCING OF CHRIST

----------------------------------

Another aspect of Ruth’s reward is that she became a crucial ancestor in the genealogy to bring in the royal house of David for the producing of Christ (Ruth 4:13b-22 ; Matt. 1:5-16). This indicates that she had an all-inclusive and all-extensive gain with the position and capacity to bring Christ into the human race. She is thus a great link in the chain that is bringing Christ to every corner of the earth. We all are indebted to Ruth, for without her Christ could not have reached us. But wherever we may be on earth, Christ has reached us through Ruth.

The burden of this ministry is to produce Christ in the believers. This means that the goal of this ministry is not to teach you to be humble or merely to glorify God in your behavior. Rather, the goal of this ministry is to “inject” you with Christ, to impart Christ as an “antibiotic” to you. The more we receive such an injection, the more we will be able to sing, “Christ liveth in me, / Christ liveth in me; / Oh! what a salvation this, / That Christ liveth in me” (Hymns, #507). On the one hand, this injection of Christ will kill our old man; on the other hand, it will make us producers of Christ, those who minister Christ to others.

The more we deny self, die to self, the more Christ will manifest himself through us. What is this "Christ liveth in me"? We being dead and his life showing through us. We see though his eyes, love through his heart. the Spirit is against the flesh and the flesh against the Spirit. May we be fit for the Master's use.

This hymn came to me this morning. It is like my testimony. Once I was far from God. It is quite profound. I believe I had a little inspiration from this hymn.

We would all like to be more like Christ. To be like Him is the result of an organic process. When we first believed we received the seed of eternal Life. Within this seed of faith is Christ. But this seed must grow. This seed of Christ will grow in us and make us like Him. It is the very Spirit planted in us as a seed. As our faith grows He grows in us and we become more like Him. So life, light, and love grows in us. This is how we grow to be like Him and express Him. It’s not what I do outwardly to conform myself. It is obedience to that living Christ within. So now I praise Him because He lives in me. Isn’t this a wondrous thought? But this is truth and reality brought to us by God’s grace. Oh what a salvation we have. Christ lives in us.
