Thou my everlasting Portion

Longings For a Closer Walk with Christ

English386
1
Thou my everlasting Portion,
More than friend or life to me,
All along my pilgrim journey,
Savior, let me walk with Thee.

Close to Thee, close to Thee,
Close to Thee, close to Thee;
All along my pilgrim journey,
Savior, let me walk with Thee.
2
Not for ease or worldly pleasure,
Not for fame my prayer shall be;
Gladly will I toil and suffer,
Only let me walk with Thee.

Close to Thee, close to Thee,
Close to Thee, close to Thee;
Gladly will I toil and suffer,
Only let me walk with Thee.
3
Lead me through the vale of shadows,
Bear me o’er life’s fitful sea;
Then the gate of life eternal
May I enter, Lord, with Thee.

Close to Thee, close to Thee,
Close to Thee, close to Thee;
Then the gate of life eternal
May I enter, Lord, with Thee.

I am so blessed to have found this website. I miss the old hymns. We sang many songs from the hymnal in my church when I became a believer at the age of 18. Now many years later on my journey I am coming back so those hands and others I never say. Thank you Jesus. Continue to mold me and change me.

As I stepped out of the house today to my place of work, the time of the saturated my mind. I picked up the eHymn of The Apostolic church, searched for the this wonderful song. I sang it over and over and over, then later prayed according the words for grace just to walk God and be close to Him.

I really want to know the story that gave to such a powerful song for intimacy with God.

Just woke up with this hymn on my mind. We used to sing it in my Secondary School days. I had to google it up and got it from hymnal. net. I sang it several times and I felt a renewed need to walk more closely with Jesus. Thank you so much for providing this inspiring song here.

I see the most of us here are Nigerians, as read the comments here, I can only say, that we need to bring back the hymns back to our Churches.
