And can it be that I should gain
An int’rest in the Savior’s blood?
Died He for me, who caused His pain?
For me, who Him to death pursued?

’Tis mystery all! The Immortal dies!
Who can explore His strange design?
In vain the firstborn seraph tries
To sound the depths of love Divine!
’Tis mercy all! let earth adore,
Let angel minds inquire no more.
’Tis mercy all! let earth adore,
Let angel minds inquire no more.
’Tis mystery all! The Immortal dies!
Who can explore His strange design?
In vain the firstborn seraph tries
To sound the depths of love Divine!

’Tis mercy all! let earth adore,

He left His Father’s throne above,
So free, so infinite His grace;
Emptied Himself of all but love,
And bled for Adam’s helpless race:
’Tis mercy all, immense and free;
For, O my God, it found out me.
’Tis mercy all, immense and free;
For, O my God, it found out me.
He left His Father’s throne above,
So free, so infinite His grace;
Emptied Himself of all but love,
And bled for Adam’s helpless race:
’Tis mercy all, immense and free;
For, O my God, it found out me.
’Tis mercy all, immense and free;
For, O my God, it found out me.

Long my imprisoned spirit lay
Fast bound in sin and nature’s night;
Thine eye diffused a quickening ray,
I woke, the dungeon flamed with light;
My chains fell off, my heart was free,
I rose, went forth, and followed Thee.
My chains fell off, my heart was free,
I rose, went forth, and followed Thee.
Long my imprisoned spirit lay
Fast bound in sin and nature’s night;
Thine eye diffused a quickening ray,
I woke, the dungeon flamed with light;
My chains fell off, my heart was free,
I rose, went forth, and followed Thee.
My chains fell off, my heart was free,
I rose, went forth, and followed Thee.

No condemnation now I dread;
Jesus, and all in Him, is mine!
Alive in Him, my living Head,
And clothed in righteousness Divine,
Bold I approach the eternal throne,
And claim the crown, through Christ my own.
Bold I approach the eternal throne,
And claim the crown, through Christ my own.
No condemnation now I dread;
Jesus, and all in Him, is mine!
Alive in Him, my living Head,
And clothed in righteousness Divine,
Bold I approach the eternal throne,
And claim the crown, through Christ my own.
Bold I approach the eternal throne,
And claim the crown, through Christ my own.

This is a very good song.
A hymn of Christian experience from salvation to prayer, and maybe approaching passing into Heaven (verse 5). What maybe missing is a verse about the Christians approach to the second coming of the Lord Jesus, although there were many more verses composed to complete the hymn. I wonder how the following verse may be a verse 6?
When I begin to see my Saviiour come
Back to the earth in glory's power
When all the angels from n high
And also the saints all raptured too.
Then may I see Him on His throne
And judge the world in righteousness.

The mystery and the blessing of salvation. Thank You Lord for taking away my condemnation and setting me free.

This song reminds me of the debt I owed to Jesus for His redemptive blood that was shed as an atonement for my sin.
I am so thankful to the writer of this beautiful crafted hymn that reminds me of Jeus unconfitional love to us all. Amen.

What a great song, declaring the awesome power of God to free from chains by His love. That am saved is a testimony to His unconditional amazing love. My heart is full of gratitude, thank You Lord.

Oh Lord, who can stop me from praising You, adoring You, thanking You, worshipping You and glorifying Your Holy name? I was nobody before but You Lord has made me somebody now by sacrificing Yourself to be crucified so that I will not die but have everlasting life. Oh, what amazing love?. I thank God for the composer of this wonderful hymn.

Reading these comments has blessed my heart. This old hymn captures the unfathomable love of the Father so well. What a mystery! What joy! And to hear that echoed all around the world...

It is wonderful for our Lord to be incarnated, live as man, crucified, died, resurrected, went up and came down as life giving Spirit. He entered into us to give us life.

A hymn that is food to the human soul, one of the greatest of all times.
