Praise to the Lord, the Almighty

Praise of the Lord His Goodness

English166
1
Praise to the Lord, the Almighty,
the King of creation!
O my soul, praise Him, for He is thy
health and salvation!
All ye who hear,
Now to His temple draw near;
Sing now in glad adoration!
2
Praise to the Lord, who o’er all
things so wondrously reigneth,
Who, as on wings of an eagle,
uplifteth, sustaineth.
Hast thou not seen
How thy desires all have been
Granted in what He ordaineth?
3
Praise to the Lord, who hath fearfully,
wondrously, made thee!
Health hath vouchsafed and, when
heedlessly falling, hath stayed thee.
What need or grief
Ever hath failed of relief?
Wings of His mercy did shade thee.
4
Praise to the Lord, who doth prosper
thy work and defend thee,
Who from the heavens the streams of
His mercy doth send thee.
Ponder anew
What the Almighty can do,
Who with His love doth befriend thee.
5
Praise to the Lord! Oh, let all that
is in me adore Him!
All that hath life and breath, come
now with praises before Him!
Let the Amen
Sound from His people again;
Gladly for aye we adore Him.

I had it the first time in a friend's wedding. I love singing it again and again. We sang it in the chapel to round up the session. I have been singing it since then.

This song came to me this morning. I was glad to find the lyrics. I am battling a sore throat and yet the desire to praise the Lord in song made sense!

I love this hymn. I was suffering severely from a kidney stone this evening, and praying God would grant me relief. He did. I responded by looking up this hymn and singing it. I understand what Martin Luther went through when he had kidney stones and praised God when he finally passed them. As the hymn says, "He (our gracious God) is our health and salvation!"

The Lord dropped it into my heart to praise him, immediately this song came into my heart, This is a perfect choice, it rounds up all the praises l intended to give to God for his mercy, all he has done and all that he will do. it is so amazing.

Ponder anew
What the Almighty can do,
When with His love doth befriend thee.

It boggles my mind the things the LORD desires to do for His people if only they'd trust Him. "You don't have because you don't ask." To me this is the greatest rebuke in the Bible.

Lord, give us the grace to trust your promises and to fervently desire them by prayer and supplication. We believe and we receive them all in Jesus name.
