Low in the grave He lay

Praise of the Lord His Resurrection

English123
1
Low in the grave He lay—
Jesus my Savior!
Waiting the coming day—
Jesus my Lord!

Up from the grave He arose,
With a mighty triumph o’er His foes
He arose a Victor from the dark domain,
And He lives forever with His saints to reign.
He arose! He arose!
Hallelujah! Christ arose!
2
Vainly they watch His bed—
Jesus, my Savior!
Vainly they seal the dead—
Jesus my Lord!
3
Death cannot keep his prey—
Jesus, my Savior!
He tore the bars away—
Jesus my Lord!

1973

Easter was late this year, April 22, 1973

I was to sing the verses to this song as a solo on Easter Sunday. Unfortunately I had broken my leg in a roller skating accident on Friday, April 13, thus was not able to do this. I was able to attend service though as my brother and father carried me up about 20 steps to the church in my wheelchair. My dad said " you are not coming again until you can go up those steps." A few weeks later, with the help of crutches and my brother, I was able to navigate up the back steps, only about 8 this time. God is good.

THE STANDARD MODEL—
THE FIRSTBORN
SON OF GOD

The Lord Jesus lived on earth for thirty three and a half years. On some occasions He exercised His divinity, but most of the time He lived out His humanity. People mostly saw Him as a man, as a proper, perfect, and extraordinary man. His extraordinary quality was His divinity. One day, He went to the cross to put away sin. At the same time, He destroyed Satan, the source of sin. As the Lord destroyed sin and Satan, He tasted death (Heb. 2:9), and by tasting death He swallowed it. Through the Lord’s all-inclusive death, every negative thing in the whole universe, including sin, Satan, and death, was terminated and made a history. After His crucifixion, the Lord rested for three days. According to the Bible, while He was resting in the grave, He took a tour of Hades, offering it the opportunity to do everything to Him and proving that it could do nothing with Him. After His rest and His tour, He walked out of Hades and arose from the tomb, coming forth in His resurrection. By His resurrection, He was born with His humanity into the divine sonship and became the Firstborn Son of God. The most striking thing about Christ as the Firstborn Son of God is that with Him all the negative things, including sin, Satan, and death, have become a history. He is a person who has divinity mingled with an uplifted humanity and who has humanity that is one with divinity. Ultimately, He entered into glory, even into glorification. Being in glorification is superior to being in glory, because being in glory does not require a process, whereas being in glorification does. The Lord Jesus, as the Firstborn Son of God, has passed through a process to enter into glory. That was His glorification.

Christ arose... as I mourn my brother David Ajiboye who lost his life in service of the Nigerian nation in the military in Takum Taraba state and to be buried in a week time at 72 special forces battalion in markurdi. I sang this song today in church with all passion on this Easter Sunday while in church with the hope that I will see him again on resurrection day.

Today is Maundy Thursday when our hearts begin to feel heavy with sorrow as we think of Jesus and his Last Supper with his beloved disciples.

Tomorrow on Good Friday, Christians around the entire world will remember and grieve the agony of our Savior crucified upon the cross for us…

But on Easter Sunday we shall sing this classic song with great gusto joyfully celebrating the victory of our Risen Lord Jesus over death and the grave….

Hallelujah! Christ Arose! He’s Alive!
