跟著唱:do re mi fa sol,再唱回 do。

1=C:do 就是 C。
1=G:同樣的數字,從較高的音開始。

小調:「6=A」

這是詩歌第 8 首「Praise God, from whom all blessings flow」第一句的簡譜寫法。

1=G,4/4 拍。先休止三拍,第 4 拍唱「Praise」。7、6、5 下方的圓點表示這幾個音低八度。

I’m pressing on the upward way

Longings For Growth in Christ

English396
1
I’m pressing on the upward way,
New heights I’m gaining every day;
Still praying as I onward bound,
“Lord, plant my feet on higher ground.”

Lord, lift me up, and let me stand
By faith on Canaan’s tableland;
A higher plane than I have found,
Lord, plant my feet on higher ground.
2
My heart has no desire to stay
Where doubts arise and fears dismay;
Though some may dwell where these abound,
My prayer, my aim, is higher ground.
3
I want to live above the world,
Though Satan’s darts at me are hurled;
For faith has caught the joyful sound,
The song of saints on higher ground.
4
I want to scale the utmost height
And catch a gleam of glory bright;
But still I’ll pray till rest I’ve found,
“Lord, lead me on to higher ground.”

In the Eternal Life and by the Heavenly Kingdom

First Timothy 6:12 says, “Lay hold on the eternal life. ” Whatever we intend to do, we must do in the eternal life.

In 2 Timothy 4:18 Paul says, “The Lord will deliver me from every evil work and will save me into His heavenly kingdom. ” In the same chapter he says, “I solemnly charge you before God and Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by His appearing and His kingdom” ( v. 1 ). The apostle Paul learned to experience Christ as his life, empowering him all the time, and he learned to practice the mystery of Godliness. He also put the heavenly kingdom always before him as a goal. He was pressing on toward the goal for the kingdom, and at the end of his race he said that the Lord would save him into His heavenly kingdom. Therefore, he charged Timothy by His kingdom. We must be empowered within by Christ as our power, and we must also be warned and attracted by His heavenly kingdom.

If we read the New Testament carefully, we will see that the heavenly kingdom in its manifestation is a reward to the faithful overcomers who run the race and finish in victory. Second Timothy 4:7-8 says, “I have fought the good fight; I have finished the course; I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, with which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will recompense me in that day, and not only me but also all those who have loved His appearing. ” This is also an aspect of the inner life. We must realize that one day the Lord will appear to reward His servants, so we must fight, run, and keep the faith.

CHRIST AS OUR GOAL AND AIM

Chapter 3 of Philippians shows us that Christ must be our goal and our aim. Verse 14 speaks of the goal. We are in a race, and our goal is the all-inclusive Christ. When the apostle Paul wrote this Epistle in approximately A. D. 64, he was already quite old and had been running the Christian race for a long time. Although Paul was aged and very experienced in Christ, he did not have the assurance that he had arrived at the goal. He was even afraid that he would miss the mark. So he said, “Forgetting the things which are behind and stretching forward to the things which are before, I pursue toward the goal” (vv. 13b-14a). The goal is Christ Himself as the prize to be awarded to us. In the Old Testament the good land of Canaan was the goal for all the people of Israel after they were saved and delivered out of Egypt. While they were wandering and pressing on in the wilderness, they had a goal ahead of them. The good land of Canaan is a type of Christ, who is our goal.
