I heard the voice of Jesus say

1
I heard the voice of Jesus say,
  “Come unto Me, and rest;
Lay down, thou weary one, lay down
  Thy head upon My breast.”
I came to Jesus as I was,
  Weary, and worn, and sad;
I found in Him a resting-place,
  And He has made me glad.
2
I heard the voice of Jesus say,
  “Behold, I freely give
The living water: thirsty one,
  Stoop down, and drink, and live.”
I came to Jesus, and I drank
  Of that life-giving stream;
My thirst was quenched, my soul revived,
  And now I live in Him.
3
I heard the voice of Jesus say,
  “I am this dark world’s Light;
Look unto Me, thy morn shall rise,
  And all thy day be bright.”
I looked to Jesus, and I found
  In Him my Star, my Sun;
And in that Light of life I’ll walk
  Till trav’lling days are done.

Timeless Words of a call from a Timeless Saviour. With the upsurge of COVID-19 and so many other pressures of life, it is comforting to hear this call again and again. My response Oh Lord is,

I am coming Lord, Coming now to thee,

Wash me, cleanse me in that blood

That was shed on Calvary.

Amen

Numbers 13:30 "Let us go up at once and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it."

A favourite hymn. There seems to be many variations of the accompanying tune.

It's hymn 323. He also wrote a less known hymn found in this hymnal but with equally impacting words. It is number 672 under the category of "comfort in trials." Bonar became famous when he published the "Kelso Tracts." He wrote Prose, spiritual poems and hymns. "Hymns of Faith and Hope" are one such publication.
