Living for Jesus a life that is true,
Striving to please Him in all that I do;
Yielding allegiance, glad-hearted and free,
This is the pathway of blessing for me.

O Jesus, Lord and Savior,
I give myself to Thee,
For Thou, in Thy [redemption],*
Didst give Thyself for me;
I own no other Master,
My heart shall be Thy throne,
My life I give, henceforth to live,
O Christ, for Thee alone.

Living for Jesus who died in my place,
Bearing on Calv’ry my sin and disgrace;
Such love constrains me to answer His call,
Follow His leading and give Him my all.

Living for Jesus wherever I am,
Doing each duty in His holy name;
Willing to suffer affliction and loss,
Deeming each trial a part of my cross.

Living for Jesus through earth’s little while,
My dearest treasure, the light of His smile;
Seeking the lost ones He died to redeem,
Bringing the weary to find rest in Him.

The Compilers prefer that
the New Testament word, “redemption,”
be used and sung instead of “atonement.”

During labor with my third child, I kept thinking of and singing this hymn between contractions. I kept asking my midwife and doula if they knew the words I had forgotten, but no one did. Now I’m nursing my new daughter and looking them up. I named her Eirini, the Greek word for peace as it was written in the New Testament. I am so grateful for God’s peace in my life.

God placed this song in my heart this morning, so looked up the lyrics. I love the tune and the message it bears.

Learned this in Sunday School about sixty years ago. Love these old hymns! Sing them to my husband, who was raised catholic and never new the beauty of these lovely hymns.

My mom taught me this song, I hear her voice ringing in my head and heart, singing it to this beautiful piano just lifts me heavenward and reminds me of God's awesome love for me, thank you Jesus for your atonement! 🙏

"Atonement" is a New Testament word!

Does anyone know why the Baptist Hymnal, 1975 edition, leaves the third verse out of the song "Living for Jesus"? It has verses 1, 2, & 4. However, they are numbered 1, 2, & 3. Discovered this today and am just curious.

The word "atonement " refers to Christ making atonement for man. It is the correct word: "For Chist, in your atonement, gave your life for me."

I love this and all the old hymns. They have a depth of meaning that the "new" songs lack.

This is one of my favorite songs of all time. I grew up hearing my father sing this song and also hearing it at Glorieta Baptist Assembly ever summer during music week. The word "atonement" is accurate, appropriate, and a necessary doctrine. This song is a wonderful testimony to that doctrine and the original script should be retained and not changed by some "compilers" with an agenda.

I was sleeping in the semi-truck; I woke up with these words and melody in my mind/soul. Thank you for this resource to re-discover such treasures.
