Isn't it amazing and altogether perplexing how the Holy Spirit keeps pulling us to the Cross, even in our worst state?! Dirty, yet loved! Fallen, yet desired! I went to bed with a heavy, remorseful heart. I'd fallen again. I felt a vast distance from God. Self guilt and condemnation have taken a firm grip of my soul. Lying there on the bed, I prayed all night. Mercy was all my plea. Mercy over judgment.
Before dawn, the Holy Spirit put this old hymn in my heart. I kept singing it repeatedly until I woke up and got here to sing through the stanza with tears streaming down my eyes. At Calvary!
Mercy there was great and grace was free;
Pardon there was multiplied to me;
There my burdened soul found liberty,
At Calvary!
And the last stanza says everything that redemption entails:
I have been going thru some trials and praying to the Lord he opened my eyes to walk with him to Calvary. How he felt and the price he paid. Then I woke up to this song playing in my head . What a blessing it is
It's 4 am and I woke up with this song on my mind. Haven't sung this in some time. May have forgotten few lyrics but not the chorus. Thank you Heavenly Father for love and mercy extended to me.
I’m 87 yrs old and to night this great gospel story song began ringing in my head, probably haven’t sung it in worship for 50 years. Oh the story so rich in truth!
