『“這裏所用的動詞，意在凱旋的行列中，帥領一個作俘虜的人；整個辭句，意為神在勝過基督仇敵的凱旋中，帥領俘虜…慶祝祂勝了仇敵；保羅（從前是福音的一大敵人）就是一個列在這凱旋行列中的俘虜，但（同時藉著隱喻上特有的轉變）他又是一個帶著香的人，在行列前進時撒香（在這些場合裏總是這樣作）。當行列到了羅馬神殿時，有些被征服的仇敵要被處死；對他們而言，香的氣味是死的香氣叫他們死；對其餘留下的人而言，是活的香氣叫他們活。”（Conybeare，康尼拜爾。同樣的隱喻也用於西二15。）神總是以這樣凱旋的方式，帥領使徒盡他們的職事。ˍ在本書第二段，從12～七16，使徒說到他自己和他同工的職事。首先他把他們的職事比作基督得勝的慶祝。他們為著基督盡職的行動，就像一隊凱旋的行列，在神帥領下從一處到另一處。他和他的同工都是基督的俘虜，帶著基督馨香的香，顯出祂凱旋的榮耀。他們已被基督征服，成了祂凱旋行列中的俘虜，從一處到另一處，散放基督的馨香之氣。這就是他們為著基督而有的職事。』林後二14註2
